Default Box versions tied to region?

    Hi all

The way I understand it is if you buy the boxed store version of SC2 you will be locked to the region you bought it in and if you buy the digital version you can choose your region (at the beginning, after which you are locked).

Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

Apologies if this has already been covered, I could not find anyone who seems sure.

    Cheersiosi

i think you got it... because if you will purchase it digitally, and you change the region to a different one, it warns you about the lag.. so, basically, yes.

Wait. Doesn't it depend on which BNET your account is set to when you register the game?

I mean, digital copy or not, you are going to tie it to a BNET account right?

Play Protoss? Look for the map Photon Cannon Tactics in the NA server!

it's based on your b.net account i believe.

Yeah, I believe we have the choice on what region to register our keys. It would be hell if Blizzard would have set of keys for certain regions.

edit: Same question in the SP vs MP thread:

My battle.net account is set in asia. The address thing. But I'm planning on playing in the NA servers. Do I need to make a new account with the address set in the US?

Hope so. I wanna play with friends in my region (Latin America), but i refuse to play the Portuguese version of the game. I will buy it digitaly and i will try to instal the english version with my serial number. If the region is set by BN account, i have a chance, if not, i will have to play the game with weird sounds.

We already discuss it before here:http://sclegacy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5671&page=2
And thats what Alex said in this thread:

The installation will probably tell you that the serial fits to the Portuguese version, and will ask you to download their client.

However, I think that it won't be long until someone releases mods that will change the language files to any language you want.
    is that true?

    Region and language set to:

    Americas,
    English (US)
    (Change)
Here's what it said for my account. I assume you can change it fairly easily, but can only have one region or language at a time. But that's beta.

I wonder whether Blizzard realizes (or cares) just how much the regional translations suck...

Yes, not only that, but if the business model for that country is "pay per time", the boxed versions are "pay per time". You will need to go to the digital download to buy a non-expiring version.
I decided to go with the USA version. I prefer the original language to the translation, won't pay for the LA version to found if it's possible to change the language later, nor will download the full spanish version just to have to download the english patch afterwards, if it's really possible. Also, the LA servers are said to be physically in USA anyways, and the USA servers are likely to have a lot more users, so it's kind of a no-brainer.
