Thread: Is SCII to easy to master?

  1. #1

Default Is SCII to easy to master?

Blizzard said that SC2 was going to be easy to learn, difficult to master. But compared to Sc1, is it really that hard to master? I'm not saying I'm a pro at SC2, but I feel SC1 was much harder to handle than SC2.
I have the feeling that we won't see players from Korea in the future, like we saw in SC:BW because you won't need that amount of practise and training to master Sc2, just because the game itself is so much easier to handle.

If this is the case, it will be totally random who will win tournaments. And people we never heard of will beat the most famous ones and so on. . .

    What's your toughts on this?
Am I just totally high or?

Sorry for my bad English :P

The game is indeed easy to play. But it is far from easy to master.

Don`t be fooled buy the easier macro machanics that SC2 offers The game focuses alot more on micro whitch is the difference between a good player and a pro-player.SC2 offers some very intence battles - there are many units, that in the right hands can do tons of damage (hellions come to my mind as first). Those are my 2 cents

While I agree that SC2 isn't as hard to master as BW, it still requires a very impressive amount of skill to play at its highest levels (and I do not believe we have seen how far it can go yet, not by a longshot).

Pre-beta, many had the same concern as you - that 'better-than-average' people would be able to at least hold their own against pro-level players, but those same people now agree (as far as I'm aware of) that the people who play SC2 at its peak are definitely in a league of their own.

Well i hope you guys are right. I'm aware of this being a beta, so I can only hope for the best when the real game is out ^^

You no longer have to fight with the interface. I think that is what you are picking up on. And that is a good thing. It is still a very hard game to master, strategy wise. It's just a much nicer experience to use the new interface.

I honestly feel there's more strategy now in Starcraft 2 and less mechanical difficulties to overcome.

I like more strategy and the thrill of trying to handle those in a strategy game.

It's one of those things that are easy to get into but hard to master. Most of it is muscle memory TBH, but also conscious strategic decision. Despite IdrA the pessimist saying there's a skill ceiling so low everyone will hit it, I really don't think anyone is going to be able to reach it. There are simply too many things to keep up with and Blizzard is consistently tweaking the game to make sure that is so.

Why do you say so? You're at Diamond 1?

    And that's a problem?

Ever since when has difficulty for difficulty's sake been a positive? Why should the game have a long spinal cord or a long chain of command? Why should people have to struggle just to play the game casually? Why should people have to bore themselves to play a game? Does that even make sense?

You think practicing StarCraft II is pointless for pros? You're wrong. The best soccer players (and soccer is a relatively "easy" game) practice long and hard because their opponent isn't the ball, it's the other team. They have to be better than their opponents. Same with StarCraft II. You still need to be better than your opponent. You need to outsmart them, outstrategize them, outplay them, react faster, macro better, micro better, and so forth. And that takes practice and training.

I have the feeling that we won't see players from Korea in the future, like we saw in SC:BW because you won't need that amount of practise and training to master Sc2, just because the game itself is so much easier to handle.
Apparently you think Koreans are masochists or somethings. Something like 5-10% of South Korea's population bought StarCraft II. That's an incredible number. Most of those guys aren't progamers, though. Putting barriers in their way only results in sports fans, not more sports players.

If this is the case, it will be totally random who will win tournaments.
No it won't. The winner will be the person with the most talent who practiced the hardest. Just like in StarCraft I.

And people we never heard of will beat the most famous ones and so on. . .
New progamers aren't a bad thing, especially with all those older progamers who do nothing but spit on the new game for a variety of reasons. (They can stick to Brood War; it's not like battle.net 1.0 is going to vanish.) Eventually there'll be a new, semi-permanent crop of StarCraft II pro players. Probably younger players who can learn faster and have faster reflexes anyway.
