    Default While waiting

I know this probably shouldn't go here. But I was wondering if I should get the regular Starcraft while I wait for StarCraft 2. I've never played StarCraft, but want to probably get ready for StarCraft 2. So is this a good move or should I just stick to watching the videos on Youtube as I wait?

Go for it, it's a great game whether you can use the practice or not.

Well I've never played it before. So I'll need the practice. Also anyone know if it can run on Windows 7?

Yes, but expect some issues with crazy colours in the cinematics and also a bit in game, mostly menues though, since when playing maps the only thing is the water having a strange colour.

Blizz hasn't made a patch in a long, long time, and it looks like they aren't planning at it, so some time will pass before it will be fully compatible with Windows 7.

But don't let that scare you off. I completed it (again) recently with that colour problem, and it's just as enjoyable as always.
Also I tried to solve the issues, and from what I read from many others who experienced the same with W7, I can say MANY solved their problems, and there were tons of ways to solve it, only certain computers (like my notebook) with W7 couldn't solve the issues.
And if you want to enjoy the Cinematics to the fullest, then just look'em up on the old StarCraft Legacy YouTube Channel.

Ok thank you for the replies. I'll go and buy the game right now in the blizz store. And get ready StarCraft 2 to come out.

I play it on 7. I suggest you install only (Disc or download) and do not patch by trying to go online. The color is fine if you leave it in its release state.

But otherwise, I highly suggest you give it a playthrough the campaign.

Yeah, maybe the B.net client won't even screw up the colours, but I really can't tell. At least there's a pretty good chance you can solve the issues.

And as a side note. You'll really enjoy so much more out of SC2 if you've played SC1. There's the whole legendary storytelling that will continue in SC2!

He can't find a copy that hasn't been patched already these days. I think the ones they sell at gamestop and such already are very high up the patching.

Only few people have the original disks today.

I actually use the one direct download from the Blizzard store and it works fine on my machine. The whole problems seems to be a case by case issue

Yeah, from all the reading I did trying to figure out what to do, it all seems to come down to the bit amount and the (I forgot the tecnical spec for it) the "version" of W7 you're running. (It's a 4-digit number that determines that I think. People with higher than something had certain issues, people with lower had different issues, but then again depending on 32 or 64 bit...)

I just gave up in the end. Used too much time to figure it out, and it didn't even bother me in game. Only during the Cinematics.
