Since Beta phase 2, I can't play old replays

I'm pretty sure they were only talking about the release & its patches. Wouldn't including beta replays make the file size of the SC2 DVD needlessly larger?

Yeah, I figured that claim would only be applicable to retail. Still I felt the need to rabble rouse and wanted an excuse to use Bazinga.

I expect the gameplay will have changed too much for old beta replays to be relevant at all tbh...
Other than for the sake of argument, would you watch SC vanilla replays now?
The 'famous' beta games are forever on VoD anyways so there's no risk there. The only downside is that there are always commentator voices if you want to make a complilation, but you can just turn that down and add your own sounds/music.

VODs can never be nor should ever be a replacement for a replay file. Especially a replay file with commentary added.

Of course they can. Replays are good for builds, which get irrelevant quickly.
For pure entertainment, vods are usually better.

I have to disagree. The tools given to you to make replays more fun to watch for you personally is much better than watching a game from the commentators perspective and seeing what he/she thinks is important to see.

If this was sc1, i'd agree that the commentator will probably follow most if the important stuff and is definitely better than watching yourself.

With sc2, I would like to watch the stats that I want to see and the areas that I want to see. I'm sure there will be excellent commentators that I like because they watch the game how I want to watch it, and in that case it will be better than doing it myself. I just don't expect that to happen very often.
