Well, judging by his avatar, he's in Twilight Messiah mode. He'll probably come back to deliver some messages through the Khala.
In WoL there's a mission where you go back to the where he killed the Overmind. Maybe you'll see him there :P

It's not that big of a spoiler, we know the location but we dont know
why
what we find
what happens
etc.
besides he clearly looks like an Archon, of course. I swear to god i am going to be pumped if they bring him back to life. Maybe Fenix can be back too! But yeah he could pass for a spirit.

Fenix is confirmed dead. 3x revival is too much.
On the archon/spirit debate, it's technically possible that any being with sufficient psi-power becomes energy. The two most powerful psychics we've encountered, the Voice, and the Energy Creature were both immaterial, and any archons are obviously pure energy. It's possible that's because the merging of two templar creates a being so powerful a physical form can't really hold it. My point is, both Tassadar and Adun, the two of the most powerful Protoss ever, didn't exactly die. In a pinch they turned into pure energy to save the rogues, and to kill the Overmind respectively, you could argue that their ascension was just the ultimate release of their massive power, which was too much for their bodies, causing them to turn into pure energy. Possibly some kind of energy related directly to the Khala. Point being Tassadar may have just become an entity of sorts, meaning he could show up a a pinch, if need be. If my speculation is true, that all sufficiently powerful psychics become beings of pure energy on release of their power, then Tassadar may technically be very much in existence, as a Voice in the Darkness type of entity.
Think Protoss Dr. Manhattan.

The Voice had a physical body - he was the tentacle monster that appeared out from under the floor. And I'm pretty sure Archons are physical (at least their core). But they only have 10 hp.

It's obvious.
Raynor goes to the grave of the Overmind, takes the crystal that allowed it to manifest itself, and shoves it into his head. He is possessed, gifted with extraordinary powers, and severs Kerrigan's power over the Swarm.
Also, as the new king of reality, he announces that the Universe is cancelling puppies.
In all likelyhood, I don't think Tassadar has anything to do with WoL. I think his avatar is just for kicks.
Aaand sold.
Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow
Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?
The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

That's very possible seeing as how his Avatar is nothing but an archon looking at a different angle. It'd be more confirmed if they actually took the time to make a completely new portrait for Tassadar... but they didn't.In all likelyhood, I don't think Tassadar has anything to do with WoL. I think his avatar is just for kicks.

You're right. Tassadar is derived from either the carrier or archon. Compare - they're the exact same protoss, save the lighting and translucency. A fancy palette-swap, really.
They put no effort into this; this looks nothing like Tassadar.
