I'm like a shark in that I can get no disease or contagion. However, I will still be wearing a "germ suit".

That's my plan as well. I've never had a problem getting a popular game on launch day before. And I have never put much faith in pre-orders.
I have quite a few 24-hour Wal-marts in my area. I plan on picking my copy up on my way into work on the 27th around 7AM...no midnight escapades for me.

Luckily, I know someone that works at Gamestop. No waiting in lines for me. However, I will be recording the midnight event to see if it will be epic.

the epicness depends on the area and location the store is in and if there are dedicated gamers around

I did a midnight release once... and I didn't feel as nerdy as I expected to.
It was for WoW's first expansion (and last one I would buy), Burning Crusade. It was pretty fun actually. I had egged some friends to tag along, and it was at the Fnac on the Champs Elysées. Quite a bit of stuff going on, especially since the planet hollywood a few buildings down was doing a promotion for Rocky Balboa, and Stalone himself was there.
On the Fnac side of things, there were some blizzard reps, cool decorations, stands for getting signatures, some free swag (that I couldn't get a hold of since it was so crowded) etc...
All very nerdy stuff, but the general atmosphere was cool. I was amazed by the age average. I guess parents don't let their kids do midnight releases, which is perfect! There were a bunch of 30/40year old couples, groups of friends, sometimes even families where the parents were much more hyped up than their 10y/o kids hehe.
We didn't bother with getting our copies signed or whatever though. We just got our games and headed back to the apt we had previously stocked up with food and beer to last us a while
Sucks I'm not in Paris for the summer and I don't have any gamer friends here. I would have loved to do that again for SC2 : )
edit: ermm, dunno why I started blabbering about my life
My point: midnight releases can be fun![]()

It is ok Hammy we understand. I actually was at the BC midnight release too, but because I was the only one who knew wtf to do at the place I worked at /le sigh the downside of brilliance. I almost convinced the managers to let me make a video of a whole bunch of cut scenes and stuff from WoW to amuse the customers for the last few hours but they said no when they saw the Leroy Jenkins video. But even working at midnight releases are fun just because of the continuity that you have, it makes you feel far less alone then you might think.
I realize that I change my signature often. All I can say to that is: SO??? HAI FIVE!! (*・∀・)/♡\(・∀・*)

I know EB Games / Game Stop in Canada is doing it as well at select locations that have enough preorders.

Like someone said earlier most Gamestops "should" be doing a midnight release but it will vary from store to store. They have all said the exact same thing about calling about a week beforehand to check and see if the schedule said they will be open. Nearly all of the ones have said they met the preorder goal they needed to do a midnight release, but can not guarantee until they get the schedule. In other words, if you are not sure, ask and they will tell.

I'm going to BestBuy for a midnight release.
