Wow. Just wow.

So basically you want to use an indirect form of censorship just so you don't have to worry about some troll hurting your feelings?

This would basically screw over gays, women, minorities, and really anyone who has an opinion that isn't "mainstream." There's a reason that 70% of women use a male avatar online.

Here's another reason why this is a bad idea:

Not only that, but I really don't want to be harassed and possibly killed by some religious nutjob who was offended by my opinions on religion. And let's even forget about professionals who for very good reasons would like to keep their gaming and professional lives separate. Really, I could go on forever about this

And the worst part? The only trolls affected by all this are the more cowardly ones. Alot of trolls will troll regardless of the "repercussions."

EDIT: But really, if you want to plaster your name and other personal info on the net, I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with, though, is when you tell OTHER PEOPLE that they have to do so as well. That's where I draw the line.

If enacted successfully this would set a pretty scary precedent . Blizzard is really testing the waters with this one.

It was wise of Blizzard to announce this change a day before beta phase 2 hit. It gave them enough opportunity to receive initial feedback, before people forgot about it in light of the excitement of playing the beta again.

And why hasn't the world imploded from use of the white page, facebook, myspace and the like? Because this is not the radical and world ending problem everyone is making it out to be. As I already said Jmac has proven that without my real name someone can find pretty much anything you've ever put on the internet about yourself. Since this is the case if you are TOO SCARED of having your real name on something (which I'm not, my real name is attached to both my 1up and bitmob accounts) then you don't have to use the forums. I can't remember the last time I've ever seen this big of an uproar over something that you never, ever need to use. Official forums are an added service that blizzard in no way needs to provide. They've become a cesspool and they want to try a groundbreaking (well sort of, bitmob did this a year ago) way of dealing with it. Everyone is acting like they are going to keep a list of players posted on their main page and you have no choice of whether or not it's there. Like Captain Planet always said, "The power is yours!".

Uhm... you know that Facebook have privacy options, right? When people don't sets it right, it can pose real risks, like everyone on the world knowing when there's no one on your house for extended periods of time.
