How am I not surprised you would pull attitude in light of the complaints of 90% of this community? Post your real name right here if you have no problems with it. Otherwise you're a hypocrite.
I don't. My name is Ken Wong and I've posted it on this forum and TL before, because I'm not a hypocrite. You're an idiot if you think I go back on my words.

The only reason why this is escalating is because frazzlewahholes who are totally paranoid are using the exact same method of harassment that they're afraid of being subject to, such as harassing Bashiok. If Blizzard suddenly has to pull out a rule that representatives may use a privacy option then it'll all be because of the community, which couldn't even bother giving this a chance.

Conclusion: I'm not a frazzlewah paranoid freak like everybody else who's been rehashing the same things. "Somebody is going to hunt me down if I get into a heated debate" seriously? Are these people forgetting the fact that the person they're debating with, ALSO has their real name displayed, and can be accounted for? Call the frazzlewah police if you're scared.

It's funny. Not so long ago, they said about the ridiculous nick+3 digit ID. Now, where is that going to be used? They're like a ship going in random directions, until they hit an iceberg.

I don't get what you mean? 3 Digit ID was so that people could claim the username they want. This is a whole different beast.

    From the B-net forums.

pulled this from world of raids (it was deleted)

This post WILL get deleted, Im just trying to get this information out so other people will realize how much Blizzard is screwing us over.

After a long talk with a few Blizzard phone reps, it turns out BLUES will NOT have their real names posted in the forums due to "Security Concerns." Blues are free to hide from the nightmare RealID will turn these forums into, and yet we, the paying customers, will be forced into it?

Thats right everyone, YOU will have to reveal your real name in order to post on these forums. Blues, on the other hand "Cannot risk having their personal lives compromised by in-game issues" (Thanks, Josh with no last name - thats a gem).

I have already canceled my account and filed a complaint with the ESRB about all of this, I suggest you do the same.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

File a complaint with the ESRB

    wow.

    lol.

Thats the breaking point for me. From "kind of against this" to "no frazzlewahing way am I eating this frazzlewah".

I don't. My name is Ken Wong and I've posted it on this forum and TL before, because I'm not a hypocrite. You're an idiot if you think I go back on my words.

No. You have a perfect right to think the way you do. However, you do not have a right to impose your subjective positions upon the majority of people who are going to be detrimented by it. Neither does blizzard, because ultimately, we are their customers.

Let me explain something to you. 90% of the people are against this. They are against it because it makes them feel threatened, insecure, endangered, exposed, uncomfortable, and compromised.

So you're a rebel. You're part of the 10% who likes it. Grats. Now tell me, what on earth gives you the right to take away the forums for the other 90%, or make them post under circumstances that puts them outside of their personal boundaries?

I also don't care if people know my real name, but it is easy to be brave when you are an adult male.

You think a female gamer is ever going to want to post her real name? They are a minority that get unwanted attention anytime their gender is known.

And it amazes me that Blizzard is willing to take on the legal mess this is going to cause for kids. Parental locks? Are parents really sitting down with little Timmy while he installs the new game they bought him? I doubt it.

Does this affect me personally? Nope, not really. But I do understand why others are worried.

If that's true it's only because of the community being hypocritical. You really think they would have to pull this if people weren't being assholes about it and searching up every piece of dirt they could to try to prove their point? Now they're going to complain about how Blizzard is being unfair by giving Reps, the people who are most known on the forums, privacy, while everyone else is paranoid about themselves. Like I said earlier, it's disgusting and pathetic.

Everything has its risks. People are just knee jerk reacting to this because it seems like having their name revealed suddenly increases the risk a hundred fold of them being stalked and brutally murdered, or blackmailed. It takes people to push forward new ideas or to try new ideas, if nothing new is ever tried then this world would be a sad place. I'm willing to see how this could turn out without bitching about it like most other people.

I also don't care if people know my real name, but it is easy to be brave when you are an adult male.

Let me ask you something. Would a lot of us here right now have problems giving out our names to each other? Sarov certainly doesn't have any problems letting us all know she's a girl. Neither does perfecttear, and they exist perfectly fine to my knowledge, along with the pictures they've so generously provided to this forum. Blizzard is trying to (or so they say, so far) create a tighter nit community. If they manage to clean the trash from their forums, what's to say it couldn't become just as constructive as ours? Everyone is already accustomed to the stigma that follows the b.net forum (which is that it's full of idiots and morons) so they're all scared that a whackjob will come and hunt them down. Whatever though, it's pointless arguing with people when they're nerd raging. They see no reason.

Using the forums is a privilege. They aren't YOUR forums, they're blizzards. Play by their rules or go home. This doesn't affect your use of the game they sold you in ANY WAY. If you want to hide behind a false name go post somewhere else.
I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.

Are you not accounting for the people who aren't registered yet are still able to read your thread on the public Internet? Or what about the search engines which index and catalog an entire forum only to have it captured for an entire decade.

You've used the SC2GDF long enough to recognize the immaturity and maliciousness of this community.

No, but I certainly think you need reading glasses.

First of all, what's to stop Blizzard from only allowing people who've registered to read the forums, like they did for the beta forums at one point?

Second, my post regarding your reading glasses. A common argument people use right now is that they're scared that in a debate some whackjob will get pissed and start harassment tactics. If his real name is being used, then he's completely accountable and should be banned, otherwise call the police if you're worried.

Third, regarding strangers, why the hell would they want to hunt you down? They don't even know you, let alone have had any interaction with you. If you're really paranoid enough to think that the difference between having a stranger harass you is showing or not showing your real name, I think you need to see a psychiatrist.

You've used the SC2GDF long enough to recognize the immaturity and maliciousness of this community.
That's only because Blizzard had no moderation whatsoever. It's not impossible for Blizzard to clean up their forums and have proper moderation like this forum or TL. If they fail, then that will be when that time comes, which is not now. I can't see the future. If the forums degrade to how they always were, then I hardly see the point in having real ID's as that's the least of your problems, let alone trying to get any discussion going without having some idiots spam the whole thread index with "flaw with the mothership" topics and rehashing the title.

I choose not to reveal my full name on the internet simply because I don't wish for people to know it. Paranoid yes perhaps I am, but given the prevelence of hacking these days why not? I say don't make it easier for scammers and hackers to steal your personal information. My name is Adam, use it if you wish. I'm 22 and live in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. That's the only information I'm giving out publically. I have an email account bound to my real name but entirely unrelated to the name "Drake Clawfang" - the only people who know my real name via that email account are friends and family I'm comfortable giving it to. I use this account bound to my real name as a sort of "business" account for resumes and my college application, while a second email bound to Drake Clawfang serves as my social email for forums and the like. Works just fine for me. I do this not just for the sake of privacy, but really, "drakeclawfang@email.whatever" is not something you really want on a resume going to the employer. amirite?

As for the Battle.net issue, I don't post there except for, well...*points to sig*
    SC2 handle - "DrakeyC, code 929"

I ARE A PROPHET! I've predicted three major aspects of SC2 correct, more or less.

June 2007 - I predicted the Protoss campaign would give you new tech as you conducted diplomacy among tribes.

    Hidden Content:
July 18th 2010 - I predicted Raynor would broadcast information of Mengsk's actions on Tarsonis to discredit him and incite rebellion.

    Hidden Content:
June 16th 2010 I predicted the Voice in the Darkness was the commanding force behind the Hybrids. I'm calling it half-right.
