Thread: Registering the game?

  1. #1

    Default Registering the game?

I've heard a long time ago that you will have to register the game atleast once before you can play it.

Currently it looks like this will be the case where you download a large amount of content before you can actaully play it at all, or do you think that you will still be able to play singleplayer without updating?

You'll authenticate the game (close to instant) and then you might as well download the day 1 patch. Who knows how big that'll be. I say the bigger the better.

    no, the bigger the worst
I don't want to wait till it downloads a damn activation patch that is the size of a map editor

Why would you punish people for buying your game. It just does not make any sense at all from a creator prospective it is like baking a cake and the putting a plastic dome over it, sealing it shut and putting it in front of a child on their birthday. DRM makes kids cry.

If it was that size then there must've been a **** load of content. What's better: waiting a few minutes extra and getting a life time of extra content, or, saving a few minutes but never getting that content.

Seems pretty obvious to me. Besides, you should have a good internet connection to go with that beefy rig so it shouldn't be a problem.

@dejai: This isn't typical DRM. Just click a button, activate, and done. Only a pirate would have a problem with that assuming there's no side problems.

I personally think the content will already be in the installation DVD

I agree with TychusFindlay, A bigger patch means more stuff, more stuff is better. But as the saying goes, "Bigger isn't always better." If it gets too big, its not good. People these days are impatient. A few extra minutes won't kill you. You need a good connection to play well on battle.net anyways. Would you rather have more story to the game or save a few minutes and never get those few extra missions that explain everything in the expansion?

Of course the content will. The patch will be for bug fixes and balance changes. I was just saying that, should the patch be big, that's only a good thing.

I don't have time to find the real one, but I found this quote from bigdownload.com:
Blizzard's lead designer Dustin Browder who confirmed the news but added that they will make the Day 1 patch as small as possible. He states, "That's our biggest concern with the patch: to make sure it's the tiniest thing we can make it so it's really quick once you install the game."
It is old, but I guess it is still in play.
