EMP imparts a short buff that disables cloaking.
I've been doing this a long time. It is better than scanning, coz I want more mules.

This one game of Brat_OK some protoss tried to DT rush him (hid tech and everything). So Brat_OK used 3 EMPs, 1 scan, and had a raven by the time the 5th DT came. Ghosts can nearly 2 shot a DT anyway if it was not for their natural 1 armor. Adding on to what Gradius said, it actually GAVE me kids to use a tax write offs as well. EMP for president 2016.

Spore Crawler is no different than Spore Colony except it moves.
Fungal Growth combines Ensnare and Plague onto one unit you have to get anyway (Infestor), and it has two other decent abilities.
The Overseer only costs 100 gas, same as an Observer, and it gives supply and also has three abilities in trade for cloak.
I think its a pretty damn good upgrade Zerg got.

You could argue that these are the same way they were in SC1, and that Zerg's detection was far too powerful in SC1, so it is now balanced since Zerg detection was nerfed.
...except Raven's and Observers have been moved down a tier in tech, while Zerg's has been moved up a tier. You might even argue that Terran's scanner sweep has been nerfed, since it now takes more energy and has tension with the MULE. But then again, the scan's radius has also been drastically increased.
As for the supply: I won't argue with you, as some people would, that the overseer giving supply is a drawback. It really depends on the way you look at it. Either you look at it as a unit on it's own, or you look at it as an evolution of an overlord. Now, if you look at it as an evolution, it becomes a unit that costs the same as an Observer, while costing no supply. However, it also puts 8 supply at risk. If you want to treat it as a unit by itself, it gives 8 supply, but also costs 100 more minerals.
You should probably also note that, of the three abilities, the only one that could possibly help it defend itself costs 100 energy. The Overseer is not cloaked itself, so unlike the Observer, the enemy needs no detection of its own to attack it, and has no defensive spells such as PDD to protect it. (Sure, it has IT, but those move about the same speed as Auto-Turrets and cost twice as much energy.)
In short, I used to think DTs were overpowered. Now, I realize it's just Zerg detection that's underpowered.

Ah, get over it...
Zerg in SC2 is a new race. Therefore, new detection mechanics for them. It is actually very balanced since for PvT and PvP the earlier tier detection makes for good protection against DT rushes. Zerg can get to Lair tech at about 4 mins into the game. DT rushes take about 5 mins minimum...
WTH are you complaining about...
Also, the overseer has >> speed than upgraded overlords, has detection has changeling = free vision/scout, has Contaminate (which basically shuts down a tech / production building for a whole 30 secs! One whole damn production cycle). Combine that last ability with SL mechanic and you have a zerg that can outproduce BOTH Protoss and Terran.
Overseers are really powerful and WARRANT that 100 gas cost. You mentioned so yourself as well that it costs NO supply to morph an ovie into an Overseer... An Obs takes 1 supply. A Raven costs 3 (?)
Seriously... Zerg already have a really balanced detection mechanic w.r.t the other two races.
PS:
Did I mention that DT's require 125mins/125gas? Also, a dark shrine costs a lot as well and takes freaking forever to build, during which time, any kind of timing attacks will destroy the Protoss. The unit itself is really weak once detected, and if you teched right, you will have an Overseer by the time DT's are a-knocking.
EDIT:
For the OP, that was one of the first things I noticed about EMP when I faced Terrans in ladder games. EMP uncloaks units for like 1-2 secs which enables Terran to take them out.
