Thread: Starcraft 2 in 3D confirmed

I'm not raging about either thing. I just don't care about them. I don't use facebook and I think they jumped on the 3d kick too early. Most households in the country don't even have HDTV in them yet. With HDTV just now becoming truly affordable to the average American they expect folks to run out and buy new stuff already?

No thanks. When it's glasses free in another 5 or 6 years I'll be interested then. For now it's just icing for people who have more money than brains or just have to be on the cutting edge at all times. Maybe they can sell their collection of laser discs and virtual boy games an buy some 3d glasses with them :P

For 1st/3rd person games, it makes a lot of sense, but for an RTS game?
Nobody said it'd be particularly useful. But for those who want to take advantage of the hardware they bought, it works.

you do realize the 3DS only works if you hold it in the PERFECT position, 1 mm another way and its complete crap.
Besides the fact that this is at best a gross exaggeration (there is indeed a fairly narrow range at which the 3D works, but it isn't nearly as narrow as you're letting on), so what? It's in your hand. It's not like a fixed TV or something; if you find yourself drifting out of the sweet-spot, just move your hands a bit.

I've read several hands-on reviews and nobody mentioned it being particularly difficult to keep yourself in the range where the 3D works.

if you're gunna talk trash be smart about it, dont try dissing a company that changed gaming and established new standards. Last i checked Sony made DVD and Blu-Ray industry standards.
Movies made the DVD industry standards, something that Sony only gets partial credit for. And the HD-DVD standard was a better standard overall than Blu-Ray, so killing HD-DVD isn't exactly a win overall.

As for their contributions to the industry... so? Nintendo has made just as many if not more. I seem to recall Sony stealing some of Nintendo's more recent contributions (*cough*Move*cough*) as recently as this year.

With HDTV just now becoming truly affordable to the average American they expect folks to run out and buy new stuff already?
So what should they do? Sit on the technology? That doesn't make technology more affordable.

The reason HDTVs are now becoming affordable for the average person is because of the people who bought them at the higher price. Early adopters subsidize these products. For their money, they get to enjoy the benefits of them earlier. Without those subsidizes, it'd take a lot longer for it to become affordable.

Am I the only guy that enjoyed playing the Virtual Boy? I bought that sucker cheap from a Blockbuster because they put it on clearance.

But seriously, 3D very well could be a passing fad, but I still think Nintendo will 1-up everyone with the 3DS. Sony and Microsoft were now finally starting to play catch-up with the Wii years later, and here comes Nintendo with the next big thing in portables!

Not to mention Sony's original gaming conception; the original Playstation X was literally a rip-off.

Don't even start arguing for Sony. Their system only works because of the high processing power. Even Microsoft has a better price-tag for the quality it offers.

What's the point of 3D when the game is isometric? The camera angle kind of defeats the purpose of depth.

You honestly think that the sweet spot is a 1mm difference between getting the 3D and having it out of focus? Give me a break.

As for the topic, don't know what's up with the 3D haters, but you know, SC2 will still be fully available in 2D.

Because it's not isometric; there is actual perspective involved.

No I don't expect them to sit on the tech, some things are just going to fail because the timing is off. Laserdisc is just one example. Instead of rushing to market with a product that is a nuisance refine the tech to a point where it will be readily accepted. Flipping a giant CD was stupid. Needing to buy a very expensive T.V. and very expensive glasses for everyone who wants to watch is stupid. By the time it gets to be affordable the next iteration will most likely have arrived.

Think of it as a chess board: simply compare a virtual chess board to a real one.

Done right, this could look quite awesome. My usual worry with 3D is the "greywashing" normal 3D tech does. I dunno about Nvidias shutter gass solution, does this also downgrade IQ like the now normal cinema 3D glasses?

edit: No mention of AntiAliasing patched in later? Kind of a bummer. At least give us an ini tweak to get some sweet SGSSAA (this is a deferrer engine so no MSAA in DX9).

Nvidia implements the 3D through their drivers guys. Blizzard didn't have to do much. Stop flipping out about everything. Damn.
