Thread: Lan 100% Confirmed For Televised Korean Tournaments

  1. #1

Default Lan 100% Confirmed For Televised Korean Tournaments

Disclaimer: TL is awaiting confirmation to see if this is infact 100% Confirmed.

In South Korea and Taiwan will have access to the public beta when the game ships, the beta will allow them to try the online for a short time as a demo. Starcraft II will have a 30 day online pass for ~$10 and the full game with unlimited online play will cost ~$70. There will also be a $2/day online pass option for people who can rarely play except on holidays or stuff.

World of Warcraft subscribers in South Korea will get free access to Starcraft II online as part of their subscription, for the duration of their WoW subscription.

Successful professional Starcraft II players can earn a university scholarship from Blizzard, in addition to whatever salary/prize money they earn.

Previously rumored but now confirmed - Starcraft II Professional Edition will have LAN, but will only be available for televised tournament play in South Korea.

    Huh???

We have to pay for LAN so they can buy university scholarships for the Koreans? I don't get it

Everything is a micropayment, is this what we've come to?

So apparently only the korean televised tournaments get lan latency play. Not America or Europe.

Also, and I find this hysterical, during the special event a disconnect screen showed up. Oh BNET 0.2

    Disconnect screen? Are you serious?

Blizzard, you're making me worry. Even god is trying to tell you something.
    Aaand sold.

Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow

    Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?

The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

Korea is the beginning and heart of eSports. So of course they'll reserve it there. Make it huge there, then start deploying here.

So you do indeed have to pay for SC2's online play? Well, guess I'll be sticking to AI opponents then.
    SC2 handle - "DrakeyC, code 929"

I ARE A PROPHET! I've predicted three major aspects of SC2 correct, more or less.

June 2007 - I predicted the Protoss campaign would give you new tech as you conducted diplomacy among tribes.

    Hidden Content:
July 18th 2010 - I predicted Raynor would broadcast information of Mengsk's actions on Tarsonis to discredit him and incite rebellion.

    Hidden Content:
June 16th 2010 I predicted the Voice in the Darkness was the commanding force behind the Hybrids. I'm calling it half-right.

I'm a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, but you can't help but question - if Bnet 2.0 is supposed to have lan-like latency, then why do they prefer to use lan for tournaments? :|
