whiners; pow, right in the kisser
Eh? We got what we wanted. How does that hurt us?

I've said it half a million times and I'll say it again: communication. You had some Blizzard employees saying, "We have chat in the works," and others saying, "There are no plans for chat rooms." What this blue post is is a clear quantum of communication that says, "Yes, we will have chat channels, and this is sorta how they'll work." I myself am actually still a bit skeptical, as I don't think these channels will be working quite the same that we're used to, but we will have to wait for more updates and see.

Yes, but how much? They're still not very clear on how it's all gonna work. Until they get more specific in regards to the workings of all this, we shouldn't assume everything is hunky-dory. Of course, we also shouldn't revert to whining either.

    Just stay watchful.

"Released in a later patch" means NEVER. Don't you guys understand that?

They promise you chat channels now down the road, but once you pay for SC2, they won't keep their word. People are so gullible.

Yup, Blizzard is all about first week sales

In my opinion, if people have the nerve to go straight to a gaming forum and shout out loud "I LIEK ME THEM CHAT CHANNOLS!" to proceed on flaming Blizzard for their lack of understanding in the fans, then they better have their facts straight. And they have better have done at least a GRAIN of research beforehand.

It's as easy as doing a google search for "StarCraft II Chat Channels Battle.net 2.0". The very first link will bring up the SC2GDF with a Q&A stating this:
    Q. Hi. So many people are complaining about this on the forum... is it true that there will be no chat channels? I hope not!

    A. We do have plans for chat channels. Specifically, we want to organize chat channels around users' interests so you know what types of conversations you are going to get into when you join a channel. This feature is not something that will be in for beta. Currently we plan to do this feature in a patch after the game launches.
I just find this whole thing silly.

    Yeah, I feel ya.

Both Blizzard and its fans could do a lot to make this whole thing much less of a fuss than it is.

Chat is good, and most welcomed.

Users want to be able to use the name they want to use. Period. Blizzard needs you to have a unique identifier. This does both; players get the names they want, and they're still unique.

I don't understand what the downside is here.
No, it isn't better at all.
First, there can be someone with the same name than you, except for the identifier, that will be shown only in some screens. Either they show always the ID when another user posts with the same name, or nobody will be able to tell who's saying what. And it's not that anybody will remember if you're Bolas.697 or Bolas.486 anyways.
Second, if you really wanted to be called Bolas.697, you could choose that name in any system in the world, instead of being assigned a random ID. Or, you could choose anything else you wanted and isn't already taken.

    These posts are pretty important.

What is the point with identifiers? Just let us use numbers and symbols like in war3 and sc1 so we can have unique names. Do you really want people to be called ESPORTS001 ESPORTS002 ESPORTS003 ESPORTS004 ESPORTS005 and so on? Noone wants the identifiers! Please listen to the community.
Why should you pick "esports" as a nickname exactly? Just pick the nickname that you prefer.

    This is why.

Just so you know why you have 999 players named "Esports" at the next beta reset.
Well, I'll be honest: I can't actually see the usefulness of such initiative and I don't see how it even fits this discussion.

These people are naming themselves "ESPORTS" to protest against:

    - Lack of Chat Channels
... and we just announced that Chat Channels are going to be in the game a few months after release.

    - No Cross-region play
... and we just announced that cross-region play is definitely in our plans.

    - No Unique ID
... And we just announced that every combination of nickname + 3 digit code will be unique and you will be able to add friends by using this combination.

    - You need to give out your email address
... Which is not the case anymore, as adding Nickname.007 will be enough.

I can understand the reasons behind such initiative, but I don't think that they chose the best method to explain their concerns, they will just end up sharing the same nickname with a different 3 digit code.
I don't see how this will contribute to voice their concerns, let alone solve them.

We listen to the community, we don't listen to... flocks of nicknames. We need useful feedback, opinions, suggestions, concerns, questions and so on, ending up with hundreds of people sharing part of their identifier (aka only the nickname part) is not going to help at all. You all are more than welcome to post in these forums and share your concerns, I believe that we just addressed the main concerns that were brought up on these boards and we would like your feedback based on what we disclosed today.

This is the only way we're going to make Battle.net 2.0 better.

These are the types of people who make me ashamed to be a Starcraft fan. Shut up, put up and stop bitching about things you don't even have a chance to see in action yet. This is why Blizzard doesn't listen to the community, because no matter what they do the fans will keep complaining because they refuse to allow themselves to be pleased. All those "yes" votes are probably the same kind of griefers that make the original game such a pain sometimes.

    SC2 handle - "DrakeyC, code 929"

I ARE A PROPHET! I've predicted three major aspects of SC2 correct, more or less.

June 2007 - I predicted the Protoss campaign would give you new tech as you conducted diplomacy among tribes.

    Hidden Content:
July 18th 2010 - I predicted Raynor would broadcast information of Mengsk's actions on Tarsonis to discredit him and incite rebellion.

    Hidden Content:
June 16th 2010 I predicted the Voice in the Darkness was the commanding force behind the Hybrids. I'm calling it half-right.

Oh, hey, I don't get why we can't have numbers in our usernames...Like, in my case, my username is Alex06.

Kudos to Arkceangel for the Terran avatar and sig!

I don't really get that either. Same thing with case sensitivity. All they gotta do is use a serif font so you can tell the difference between "I" and "l".
