Thread: Possibility of Cross Realm play discussed

Ok, this is stupid: "Unfortunately, there are a multitude of challenges we have to overcome due to the unique regional account and billing options that didn't exist in the past" means that they're segmenting online gameplay, because they're charging different money for the game in different countries, so they region-lock everything.

Stupid businessmen. Didn't they see when internet took off, and allowed you to buy stuff overseas?

If rule # 1 of capitalism wasn't "try to cash-milk every customer to the highest possible extent", i think that this silly things wouldn't happend.

    Hmmm...

The good: Blizzard admits to the need for and the effort in progress toward cross realm play.

The bad: We may get some kind of fee to pay of some kind.

The ugly: If we do get charged, Archer was right...

TBH I don't have many RTS buddies in other regions, so this doesn't affect me. And if I really wanted to play with people in a certain region, I would have the option of paying more to play, so I don't see what's wrong with this.

The issue here isn't lack of choice. I think most people who are complaining are simply complaining because they think their rights are being infringed on.

Is this a reference to something? If not, why would I repeat what I've already said?

    The choices are pretty shitty.

Considering the ladder games are hosted on their Battle.Net servers, I think that's a gesture from Blizzard already. I don't know any game company that hosts their games on a non-MMORPG title, for free.

The region locking is simply to enhance the online experience. They've done already more than enough compared to other companies in listening to their rabid fans..
Every other game is more or less region locked. I don't know about you, but I'm not exactly thrilled to be stuck playing with people who do not speak the same language as me and cause a 200MS ping discrepency in a ladder game.

All you hardcore activists are bitching and moaning about "real" competitive ladder game, well I don't know how is that supposed to be competitive when theres a 1-3 second delay on your units. I've already experienced this in the beta and it's just frustrating having to go through a game or face a default loss. But of course, you guys are another group of angry fans. It's impossible for a business/company like Blizzard to seriously hear out everyone's concerns. But hell if it got them to finally say something about the god damn chat channels, you guys need to up the ante and go on the official forums =P.

I edited the poll, now the people who originally saw what it's WTF I GOTTA WRITE SOME FUNNY QUEZCHUNS will remember it fondly or hate it passionately.

And now other people who look at the poll can answer it without any confusion. The messages are still what they are intended to be though.

Now, so it's easier to quote I'll place my opinion here. I do think that they'll explore this as an option to go with DLC. While it sucks that DLC may exist in Battle.net (which is different than SC2) I do agree with one fact.

DLC is a far more suitable solution to this than buying a whole new game. I don't see the point in buying a second singleplayer experience, another set of challenges, another galaxy editor for the ability to play an additional region on my online portion of the game. For that you are paying for WAAAY too much for way too much duplicated content. For lack of a better way of saying it, while it would be nice to campaign the feature to be free, it's still the lesser of two evils. (And also, don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled if it was found to be be free)

Do I like the fact that I'll have to pay for more on my content? No, but unlike many people in these forums (And possibly looking at this thread right now) I don't see DLC as evil. I see only certain types of DLC as wrong, such as DLC that provides an unnecessary advantage on a non-free-to-play game, or DLC that's outright stupid and unneccessary as my own perception deems it. I also know my perception on the matter will be different than many who may reply to this.

Playing on different realms is a DLC that I can see legit demand for and could be useful to those who seek to use it. This would be different than cross realm communication, which I feel should be free and would be VERY grateful if it turns out that both are free.

(Disclaimer: This is a set of thoughts that are my own perceptions and am not speaking on behalf of SCLegacy in this particular post. I'm not trying to say you should agree with me and won't be offended if you do disagree with me.)

it's either free and I will buy the game or it is not free and I will not buy the game

I don't know any other game that has such region lock

It is stupid and I don't like it

people who say that if it will be like from 1$ to 20$ you should go buy some oil to your brain

I am just wondering... so the game is split in 3 parts, every each one of them will allow you to play on battle.net without the need of having WoL or the Void if you have heart of the swarm for example

my question is how much and why the other expansions should cost? should they cost the same as WoL? or should they cost less?
this is a tricky one as the every each one of those expansions are stand alone games

Mass Effect Universe Fan, I support Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for Game of the year award! ME2 still is being the best rated game this year! Keep it up

They aren't stand alone. They are expansions just as Brood War was an expansion to the original Starcraft. That being said, you will need Wings of Liberty to play Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void after that.

As for region lock, I'm sure there's plenty of games that have region lock.
