This coincides with Stetman's research on the Hyperion on how crystals and Zerg biology work. In a way, it's a subtle explanation of the Hybrid's power.

Guys, I have a feeling that the Voice in the Darkness is not necessarily the Dark Voice. The quote about being the beginning and end of the Protoss sort of also made me question that. The portrait looks like that of a Protoss or a Hybrid, NOT a Xel'Naga nor some kind of tentacle creature. Could it be a fallen Protoss? Maybe a fallen Adun?

But if we can always assume several things to come to a conclusion; We can say that Duran is Narud and he manipulated the Terran Dominion via to Mobius Foundation to create the hidden facility to study the hybrid (and clone it) and to send an expedition to the planet where the Voice in the Darkness is, to free it. Makes sense, but I think it's a bit too far-fetched and well...Why would Blizzard kill the surprise now, only in the first of 3 campaigns? Maybe they want to mislead us this way!

They never killed the surprise, they are making us speculate and pop out theories. And i bet you we will not know before Legacy of the Void.

How about ulrezaj?

I thought it was going to be Ulrezaj at first, but there are two issues. Ulrezaj has a "boss." I'm pretty sure that's Glowing Eyes, and even if it isn't, I can't imagine Glowing Eyes having a bigger boss. Secondly, Ulrezaj didn't make the Protoss, unless he's somehow possessed.

I don't think he's a possessed protoss, if one looks at the image closely, the face seems different, besides having a similar-shaped head. After playing through Zeratul's missions again, the "fallen Xel'Naga" possibility seems most likely after all of that blatant hinting.

But the Xel'naga do not resemble Protoss. Actually if we assume that glowy eyes is a the voice in the darkness then i would believe he uses the appearance of Xy'tal. The voice picture seems to have hydralisk fangs, and similar shoulder-plates.

Of course its just speculation.

I know it doesn't make sense at first, but if it's Adun's spirit forced that went rouge, don't forget that Adun is one of the very first Protoss
