Sponge! OMG YOU ARE AWESOME. Sponge managed to say everything that I was feeling about the scourge issue that I was unable to articulate. I second his entire thread.

while I agree in theory the scourge would be useful, the point I was trying to make is that we have no idea how necessary it is at this moment as we havent played the game yet. Wait til beta, and if people are overwhelming zerg with air unit harassing that outmatches the corrupter speed, then maybe blizzard will realize it and bring the scourge back. Until then, we have no idea what tricks could be used to counter these air units.

The way I see it, either we can have scourge, which make for an interesting and potentially awesome micro opportunity. Or we can have a minimum of 3 Corrupters floating at all possible drop angles.
If Warp Prisms are so bad that the Zerg need a near insta-kill unit to deal with them, what are the Terrans or Protoss supposed to do? Where is their Scourge-equivalent?

Corruptors are still the most cost-efficient AtA unit in SC2. They come free with every Infestor Pit. They're cheap and massable; only 75 minerals more than a pair of Scourge. What more do you need?

Oh, and unlike the Scourge, they don't disappear after they get used.

I was under the impression that Zerg's early AA was Hydralisks now?

Queen, then Hydra, although Queens are of doubtful utility given they have practically melee range.

The point to having scourge to take our warp prism. The warp prism is essentially the Protoss equivilent to your insta-kill wherever theres a drop point. When Protoss in BW tries to do HT drop they have to be careful of scourges, without this air control for zerg we are forced to turtle every game to avoid worker harassment. I still fear the mass recall over and over. The worst part is you could put 3 warp prisms on 3 cliffs at 3 zerg expos and just bounce around which one you want to spam at, at any given time... Protoss seem to be most mobile race now and have easiest map control with all the warping they get. This used to be zergs role, the mobile race ya kno?

If a player cannot scout and keep their eyes out for Warp prisms they deserve to lose. Even a number of mutalisks could thwart a Warp Prism drop since the units they drop are easy to kill.

Scourge are not needed, Zerg players just need to learn how to use real air units

Yep, and earlier than even Hydras are Spore Crawlers.

Yeah, sure, there are so little returning BW Zerg units .

I'm not sure about the Scourge usability against Phoenix, as they were most suited to counter heavy air units. Probably not cost-effective.

They will completely rip apart anything else the Protoss have, and also BC and probably Corrupters, which isn't the idea, either.

I'm ok both ways, but i do agree that Scourges were strong AA units. Corruptors are fine, and also Warp Prism can't be out of range of Hydralisk since is has Pylon range, and WP must be in range to land ground units with that power, if Hydras can't attack it then it can't warp-in units neither. Also it takes time to warp-in about 5 sec or so, so it is pretty much easy to counter if you spot it. If you get use to Scourges in SC BW, it doesn't mean that it is 'must-have' in SC2, you will find other way to counter Drops. As Nicol said, P and T never had anything close to Scourges and they were damn good at deflecting and defending from Drops.
