Yes, but you could keep in shape in multitudes of other ways. For example, if you want to improve speed and endurance, you could load a soldier in full gear and get him to run several miles. The motions used when you walk in formation is not the type of movements you'd make on the battlefield. They are precise, in-line, and highly directional. For China, they use it because it's impressive, and they are a rising nation. However, once they get past such sillies, it's highly useless.

Unless this is the 1700s, I don't think any army moves around like that anymore.

Well yes, I also meant that. All of the above. The last thing Chinese leaders want is a man swatting a bee away in the middle of a large anniversary parade.

Not all marching is in a straight line though. It's not always on pavement. Go march up a hill with all of your equipment on. I'm sure my dad who is in the Reserves will agree marching keeps him good shape, and that will allow him to preform better on the field and survive longer. Maybe China's way of marching isn't the best but marching does have it's uses. It's more then just marching, it's discipline too. There is a lot of stuff that goes into this training. I think you guys need to go join the army for a few days. :P

Hey, calm down for a second and take a breath. We're on a friendly forum here and I didn't "call your [REMOVED] out" on anything. I put it in my very first post that I wasn't comparing armies, and was simply commenting on the visually impressive state of the Chinese army. You posted about America owning the world. Cool, I didn't debate about that. I just pointed out that it wasn't relevant to the topic, but you're getting so worked up just because I said that.

Talking about America's military prowess was pretty off topic to begin with. So I was merely trying to get it back on topic.

How am I agreeing with you that America could take on the world? You never said anything like that. What are you talking about?
I said that in your post about America ruling the world, you said that there was no need to compare armies... which is exactly what I started off the topic disclaiming.

The Chinese army is realy well trained, i saw an insane video a while ago, where the soldiers made a dam with their bodies, so they could hold the wather (flooding) back as long as posible, it was very impresive and emotional.

And even thought we aren't suposed to compare armies, i agree that the american army is still the strongest, but while the chinese have the strongest ground army in the world, they are still lacking behind the usa in airforce and especially the navy. I've read that the only thing remaining for the chinese to be a military superpower, is a white wather navy.

"Buddy, you have issues. That's all I'm gonna say about you. It's obvious from your attitude in the 3D thread, and this one, that you have some big problems"

That's a pretty insulting thing to say. A lot more insulting then just some words like fuck. That a personal attack.

    Here is a question.

What is so wrong about me wanting to talk about America's army in a thread about China's army? What is so wrong about that? I was being nice in my first post. Why are you so mad about me posting about America here? what's so off topic about that. I don't want to make a new thread for all this crap when I can just post here about my opinions.

you guys were talking about how marching doesn't seem like it has it's resources (well maybe not you particularly but anyway) ...ugh...

There is a need to compare armies because it's all relevant. What's so fucking wrong about comparing armies to see how marches better, or who is more disciplined. It's all on topic dude because it's all relative to how each army practices. The topic is about china marching so why can't I talk about America's marches? Is it so horrible?

Yeah, I suppose it's ok to compare armies as long as it's in a contained manner. I just didn't want the thread to escalate to new heights of flaming or derail so as a precaution I just wanted to stick to the topic of one military.

In any case, I have a question about the weapons that those soldiers are holding. What are they? They don't look like anything I've seen before, but all I know is that those types of guns (with the mags behind instead of in front) are pretty ugly IMO.

Ugghhahaah. FINE! IM SORRY FOR SWEARING OKAY!

Also China's marching is top notch.

I need some of Raynor's whisky.

EDIT: And I couldn't join China's army because I'm allergic to bees.

Compare that with regular running up the hill (in full gear), where you would do that during a combat scenario. I understand your point in that it's good exercise, but it's like doing push-ups versus sparring when training for boxing. Sure, the push-ups give you muscular build up, but not all the muscles involved are used when in an actual boxing match. Sparring, however, will mainly give you the muscles required in punching.

Marching, as I said before, gives you muscular strength and endurance, yes, but you're not going to use all those leg motions and such when actually scaling a mountain in warfare. On the other hand, running with full gear up a mountain gives you exactly what you need.

There is a high discipline effect, I agree. But all and all, I don't think that discipline will suffer too much if you get rid of formations. The rest of the training and such is already brutal.

Call me forth when we get into a real defensive position such as in WWIII. Otherwise, I think the wars going on now are superfluous and don't really defend freedom as people make it out as.
