Thread: Bashiok says Blizzard ok with worthless units

Default Bashiok says Blizzard ok with worthless units

I never once, in ANY of those games, made a mothership or saw a mothership used against me. I played about 100 games between both of these, and had games go as long as 50 minutes (a pvz).. and in none of those cases, was I compelled to build one. (I don't even know what the thing does... probably a major contributor to the reason I never used it)

There are some units that just aren't going to see certain levels of competitive play (unless it's an LOL LOOK HOW MUCH MUNEY I HAV! dig at the other player), and that's fine, and we're aware and ok with that being the case, just as long as it's something we've planned for and are balancing for.

What are your thoughts? Do you think a unit like the mothership belongs in multiplayer as opposed to a unit that would see all levels of play like the arbiter?

Fine by me. As long as it's all balanced.

mothership isnt worthless though, its a very good unit, just not for the current pricetag (because of the fleet beacon, unless you already have one made for vw upgrade or carriers, spending ~700/500 on a mothership is just not worth the cost when the fleet is added in, that is why people dont go for mothership very often.

If it only required a templar archieves, I may get one everygame.

The mothership bugs the hell out of me. I don't really see the point of it as a multiplayer unit.

I'd much rather see an Arbiter-esque unit back in the game to replace the Mothership.

Everything about it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I've used it once in an actual game in which I attempted to win, and lost thoroughly (not that the two are necessarily linked).

I was severely underwhelmed by its abilities given its pricetag and construction time. Severe disappointment. I'm convinced that the constraints set against it (price, speed, construction, low attack) completely make it worthless. Blizzard's acceptance of that is troubling. It has a lot of valuable abilities that can radically benefit any gameplay, and attempting to make them a valid component of your armory just sets you back too far.

    Aaand sold.

Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow

    Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?

The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

    Meh.
I've seen it used at least thrice, always backed up by carriers. I've only countered it once, with an unintentional nuking. Unintentional to both parties. I could explain, but it would take a paragraph, and the pizza is about to arrive.
With it's cloaking and its ability to snag a dozen units with the Black Hole ability, I think that it definitely has potential, if the cost were to be lowered.

And pardon my ignorance, but who the HELL is Bashiok?

The problem is not the balance of the unit, its that that nobody uses it. So instead of trying to make it playable, they are just leaving it right where it is.

I never saw this kind of behaviour on any Blizzard game, or at least that they expressed it that way. Saying like: meh, the rest of the game is balanced, and this unit does not affect this balance, so just leave it there.

So, my question is: Why don't they just remove the unit???? Whats the purpose of it????
    Waiting...

No, I'm not okay with it. It will result in a worse game, every unit is supposed to have a purpose- that it can add to the game and the possibilities. But who the hell is this guy? He's not the lead designer.
