Well the second game was average i agree with you on that, but the first one is my opinion one of the best if not the best RPG FPS game of al times
Hopefuly the third one will be more like the first and less like the second one. ( Deus Ex2 is the reason why i hate consoles)

Actualy i disagree, the story telling was actualy much worse, it made no diference for who yo uwere doing the storyline, you could change sides every stage, with no penalty at all, which is stupid. And as for the gameplay the game was realy dumbed down compared to the original, there was no experience points, there were no skills to upgrade, unified ammo, unified tools, no weapon recoil, no ammo types and a realy dumbed down weapon upgrade sytem and augmentation sytem with no penalty at all. At the end of the second stage you can actualy max everything out, and from there on there is actualy no point in searching for goodies anymore or other stuff or exploring the enviroment, since there are no more rewards at all.

Much more depended on you in the course of the story, so the sides you dealt with were more reluctant to make an enemy out of you. Also while the first DX had a big bad guy in the form of Bob Page, DX: IW presented a much more ambiguous situation with deeper moral and philosophical choices. You could really side with any faction you wanted and bring about much more significant changes by the end of the game (also the discovery of what happened to J.C. Denton was very well handled, something that easily could've become marginalized and disappointing made into a strong plot point that also provides some food for thought). And there were some nice lyrical touches such as the mysterious copter pilot that turns out to be an AI.
I thought the stealth part and level design in general (flow/pacing, atmospherics) were much better handled, and if I remember right the weapon upgrade system actually involved some interesting tradeoffs, augmentations themselves in general proved much more useful thorought the game (in the first DX few were nigh indispensable but others quite negligible). That's not to say the first Deus Ex did any of those things badly, but I think Invisble War made them tighter and more polished.
