Thread: The reason BNET 2.0 does not have chat channels

Default The reason BNET 2.0 does not have chat channels

Props to Hadraziel (TL) for this amazing find. His first post too!

We are subject to risks associated with the collaborative online features in our games, such as World of Warcraft 's online chat feature, which allows consumers to post narrative comment, in real time, that is visible to other players. Despite our efforts to restrict inappropriate consumer content, from time to time objectionable and offensive consumer content may be posted to a World of Warcraft gaming site or the sites of other games or game services, such as Battle.net, with online chat features or game forums which allow consumers to post comments. We may be subject to lawsuits, governmental regulation or restrictions, and consumer backlash (including decreased sales and harmed reputation), as a result of consumers posting offensive content, any of which could harm our operating results.

EDIT from Gifted: Even though the thread is closed, I feel anyone who reads the OP should be aware of what Hyde posted. I am putting it in the original post to avoid unnecessary assumptions people read from this post.

One of the big things the companies must report, no matter how small or little are

And no this is not why they removed chat channels...otherwise they would have removed them from all of their existing games and dramatically patch World of WarCraft.
This Form and half the crap you read are mundane necessities.

couldnt they just make a statement in the terms and conditions that "Activision Blizzard is not liable for any statements or comments made by any registered user." or something

How is it the company's fault if something offensive is done by a user? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
    Examples:
Verizon will no longer allow cell phone calls because something offensive could be said through their network, which could result in a lawsuit.
I am going to sue AOL because someone called me a bad name over AIM.
    Same logic... yes?

So now we are no longer referred to as gamers we are "consumers".
It's a fukin chat room yea anyone can post anything thats freedom of speech. I can understand wanting to restrict spamming pr0n bots, that would be logical, however, eliminating the ability for the community to communicate as a whole is for lack of a better word STUPID!

What is the purpose of having rank, leagues, tourneys, etc. without chat rooms?

I'm on the ropes about sc2, its not as groundbreaking as I expected it to become and now it's turning into another money making machine for activision. In my opinion, someone needs to start a petition for bobby kotick's resignation and we as a gaming community should boycott all activision games until retribution is brought forth.

It's an investor conference call, of course they're going to call people consumers instead of gamers.

    Read as:
We're sick of all the bitchy mothers QQing about their "little baby" being cyberbullied, so, instead of manning up and putting the bitches in their place, we're gonna wimp out and screw everybody else over.
