All anyone used LAN for was bootlegging anyway. Stop crying just because a company is trying to protect their product.

LAN stuff:
Source: http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/60156Battle.net developer Greg Canessa says that Blizzard is actively working on a LAN-like solution to include for Battle.net play in StarCraft II.
"We are working on solutions with regard to things we can do to maintain connectivity to Battle.net in some way, but also provide a great quality connection between players," said Canessa.
Blizzard recently announced that traditional LAN play would not be included in the game, with offline play only being allowed in the singleplayer campaign.
I asked Canessa whether the solution his team is working on might include a pseudo-LAN connection, where the game would only check in with Battle.net to authenticate before reverting to typical LAN behavior.
"Something like that," he replied. "Maintaining a connection with Battle.net, I don't know if it's once or periodically, but then also having a peer-to-peer connection between players to facilitate a very low-ping, high-bandwidth connection.. those are the things that we're working on."
Diablo III lead designer Jay Wilson also confirmed that Diablo III will treat LAN in the same way that StarCraft II does, meaning that while traditional offline LAN will not be included in that game, it should support any Battle.net solution developed for the RTS.

Maybe they change their mind, maybe they don't. I'm a little annoyed at people who say stuff like that because it seems like nearly everyone will want to buy it and that it is so great that if you don't buy it you will feel sad or disappointed for not buying it or getting to play it. Or that it is a huge loss in not buying the game. Not true on all accounts. It depends on the person really.
The way I see it, it's not really a loss. Want to know what happens in the game? People will be talking about that eventually. Want to see something that you've heard about (certain events, a cut-scene etc)? People will probably post it on YouTube or something. Want to see the game but don't feel like playing through it all? Someone is bound to do a Let's Play of Starcraft 2 and it's following expansions. Or even better, watch a friend play it. Sure you'll miss the satisfaction of finishing it yourself or the satisfaction of doing it yourself but it's not like you won't be able to find information or videos of the game eventually.
TLDR version: You don't have to play the game to experience it or find out about events. That's what discussions boards and Let's Plays are for. Not everyone is going to feel sad or disappointed that they didn't buy the game. I know I sure won't/wouldn't (it remains to be see whether I am going to buy the game and its expansions but it's leaning towards a no so far). Besides, how can you feel sad for not playing a game if you haven't tried it? And I'm referring to the single player.

Wait, you mean you all were going to buy the Limited Edition? All of you? Blizzard must love you so much!
Actually, it's closer to $500. As in, below $500 for six StarCraft II games.
Not the case with me and my friends. We just enjoyed playing in the same room.

Companies do not love you and neither does Blizzard. They love your money - especially if it is easy to get that money from you.
In my opinion.
If I did buy SC2, I'm not buying the Collector's Edition. I can just get the art book from someone else or the drawings off the internet eventually.

True. But apparently this is a person who is a member of SC forums, played SC1 extensively and is friends with several people who played SC, and they're obviously following SC2's development. Sooner or later, these people are gonna get the game. Take it from a guy who plays Final Fantasy and has seen these sort of "I'm not buying it!" declarations before from fans of FF - even if they *do* hate it, they'll buy it because they're fans of the franchise. One friend of mine said Final Fantasy 13 was gonna suck and wasn't gonna buy it. Guess what? He bought it, and continued to complain but now he added "I wasted my money/I feel cheated" into the complaining.
So yes, it isn't anything personal, but in my experience when someone declares they aren't going to buy a game, they're usually lying.
Watching someone else play a game and reading about it are no substitutes for playing the game yourself. Sure, StarCraft has had some epic replays, but no replay I've ever seen has excited or thrilled me like playing the game myself can. You can understand the story and get a general sense of the gameplay, but it is entirely different to experience it first-hand.The way I see it, it's not really a loss. Speaking of Let's Plays, I can't tell you how many game story lines I've learned about and experienced through those. I only buy a game if I care about the gameplay. If all I care about is the story, I watch LPs. I'm watching LPs on Deus Ex and LoZ:TP currently.
