Zerg-Extractors

I remember in the original SC, one strategy (not sure how popular or effective it was but I know it existed) was to have a Drone go Extractor when you hit max supply before making your second Overlord, then make another Drone and cancel the Extractor, thereby giving you an extra Drone before the second Ovie.

I'm looking for opinions from more experienced players - what is the state of this idea in SC2, with the different collection rates and two geysers per base? Just curious is all.

alot of players do this all the time. If you ever watch any replay or livestream and you hear someone say that someone did "the extractor trick" this is exactly what they are doing. As far as i know there has been no evidence to support or deny it being better or worse. Just personal taste and timings. Later on I might be able to get around to actually checking if the minerals you get from the extra drone while the ovie is producing is more than what you get back from cancelling the extractor and putting numbers to each method as best as i can.
