    I fight Stalkers and Hydralisks with my anti air all the time Marines are surprisingly efficient vs stalkers

    To the original poster: I think you need to re-examine the cost and capabilities of many units:

    Void Rays are 250/150, and it is not a lot to ask to have at least 5 marines to counter every single VR.

    You say other races have better AA, such as the stalker, but 2 stalkers actually lose to 1 VR, and cost more than 5 marines. Marines are better, and even more so with upgrades.

    Hydras are pretty late in tech. 2 Hydras will kill a VR, but 2 Hydras still cost the same as 6 marines (it depends on your gas situation, but still...)

    As for the Thor, it simply sucks at killing VRs! Thors cost a lot more, are late in tech just as you said, are a lot slower than VRs. To top that off, 1 Thor will lose to 1 VR, and lose spectacularly!

    VRs are a great counter to Thors, no the other way round ...


    So... treat the lowly redneck marines with respect! I know I do.

Unless you dilly-dally with Roaches and Banelings, you should easily have Hydras by the time the Protoss have Void Rays. They build twice as fast as Void Rays, the Hydra Den mutates near twice as fast as the Stargate, and unless the opponent has multiple Stargates (very expensive) then the Hydras spawn in greater numbers and cost a lot less. Granted, the Cy Core builds quicker than the Lair and doesn't need gas, but still, Hydras are not very late in the game, at least not how I do the build order.

    You are right, hydras are not late.

    They are slightly later than, for example, the Protoss AA option: the Stalker. I like to tech late as Zerg, and as a result, I end up massing Queens for AA.

    I guess I should talk about the merits of the Queen in your other post.

    Dude, Marines+Stim tear apart void rays like no tomorrow. Stim up, get close, focus fire and you're done.

    That is if the enemy doesn't know how to micro his voidrays...

    You know what kind of Armor does the Stalker have? Armored. Oh, look! Void Rays have a big bonus vs Armored when fully charged!

    Marines are awesome. So long as they do not have AOE or Capital air, they can handle anything.

    Reactors, they cost no gas, and have great upgrades...plus they're incredibly mobile.
