Thread: Blizzard, why did you butcher the sound?

Finally, some constructive criticism instead of attacking Blizzard. If the problem are the sounds, then focus on that and not on Blizzard's ability. I like the sounds but it needs more dominance and they have to rework the the sound priorities so they don't keep on getting overridden.

For terran the only one I dont like is the BC (hope they redo the voicework on that one), the tank could use a little oomph.

For zerg, they just need to be louder and maybe a bit higher pitched.

For protoss, high templar for sure needs heavy editting.

Honestly though, they actually all sound closer to the actual character in SC2... they sound more fitting to what they look like. I liked the BW sounds better because its classic and what I firmly recognize and would love to continue hearing... but yea, SC2 sounds are actually quite solid for most things just different than BW.

    EDIT:

Absolutely this. I like knowing units are completing or if I am under attack. Allow SOME overlap and make some sounds a much higher priority.

Do you have constructive critic on voices/sounds or are you just OK with it and complainers annoy you?

Too me, art (story, visuals and sounds) are most important part of the game.

I agree people should have manners when they complain about something, but if we are all just "compliments&glorification" - company will do nothing about anything...
When community is bitching, Blizzard make things better.
We wont hurt theirs feelings. They know how good they are.

Make suggestions on what you want improved. Point out exactly what you dont like. Give actual precise feedback instead of broad sweeping statements.

"Sound needs reworked" or "voices suck" does not help at all. Likewise, for balance, "x unit is overpowered, nerf it" or "buff race" help nothing. What needs buffed/nerfed? How is it too strong/weak? Any suggestions to fix it?

Making the feedback like this and it turns from bitching into... well actual feedback.

The origin of the quote you are referring to is probably from the fact that this is the 4th or 5th thread that Wankey has opened (almost on a weekly basis) that has stated basically "I don't like the sound", link a weekly example, and leave it at that. I think his first one was the only one that involved links and examples that involved feedback or constructive criticism.

I can see his point as the only reason this conversation hit a constructive angle was around the later end of page two and had nothing to do with the origin posts. (And thus, the only reason I"m not closing this thread yet as a duplicate of a duplicate of a duplicate of a duplicate)

Regarding the current discussion though, I'm still interested in seeing suggestions that could be improvements of specific points.

....and your thoughts on how to improve it? Copy pasting Starcraft 1 sounds is extremely lazy.

they did say there was reworked sounds coming out after the first phase ended. So we can see what they did with that. Honestly I don't want to hear sc1 sounds ported over. I do my best not to let nostalgia push me to want things like it was before.

I'll try not to jump on the Blizzard bashing bandwagon, but I want to bring up a few points.

    1. Blizzard has seen many employees come and go over the years. Unfortunately, you may not have the same people that worked on SC1 and WC3 working on current titles.

    2. Blizzard has been developing an MMO for a half decade. Units in an RTS very well may have affected dialogue.

    3. We should reserve judgement until release. The campaign will bring us the whole package and I'm pretty darn sure a great deal of units and sounds have yet to be included in the SP and editor.

    4. SC2 will have a different approach and style to it. Again, we should reserve judgement until release.

    5. Wanky, you could lower your blood pressure by starting a few threads that are actually positive about the game. The past 7 or so threads you've posted (not including your sound complaint threads) have generally been downers. Try making a website blog and plug it in your sig if you want to make a good rant or two.
