It's got nothing to do with color depth. You just got lucky.

It's the servers, if you log-in the first breaking news you're going to see is that they're restarting the servers like crazy to try to fix the issues. It's likely that the move to UDP didn't went good on the server side, and they're constantly testing new builds. Today i could play, yesterday was impossible.
They should upload patches on Mondays. The weekend guys must be going crazy, but probably everyone is at Blizzard at this time, trying to put out the fire.

You sure? Coz previously my screen just kept freezing and I had to alt F4. I always registered as a loss. I've got a few more games in, and I still haven't dropped (cross fingers), but now I do face opponents who suddenly drop and I register a win. So maybe its not just you... its your opponent who needs to have the correct setting as well. I dunno, I'm just guessing.

Ummmmm, no.
It's a server side issue plain and simple. If any of the other theories were true then we'd have had problems before. This new patch brought in new network code which implemented UDP protocol. That's the problem.

If its so plain and simple, why the hell they released something that causes this??? Is it that they don't test patches or something?
I said it before. Sometimes it looks like they just don't make the proper testing to the changes in the game. The amount of problems at this stage is just massive. My concern is that they will have to put their attention into fixing the servers and stuff, instead of fixing the game.
The damned will return...

I hope they extend the Beta past May 31st because not a lot of people are having the chance to play 3v3 / 4v4 normally, due to dropping, and etc.

The dropping issue is on Blizzards end. It is probably a combination of a number of factors. Perhaps they made the UDP change improperly, perhaps their servers are getting flooded by custom maps, perhaps they couldnt handle the UDP change + custom maps + people downloading the patch. Perhaps there is another thousand reasons for it. The game "freeze" isnt actually a freeze. This can be proven by the fact that you can still move around in the game and when you hit alt+f4 it brings up the SC "are you sure you want to exit" menu, which means the game client did not freeze, just the game you are in (which is similar to a server).
Also, the beta isnt over on the 31st, the FIRST PHASE ends on the 31st. Which means there is another phase a few weeks after that. So its just a couple week break from SC2 then its back to playing beta for another month before release.
