Alot of people seem to read my comment as if I were saying stealing/getting inspired from something else is bad. That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that some people do it well, in the way that it's not too obvious and therefore looses it's own feeling to it, whereas some people do it bad, my opinion being that the people behind Firefly did it bad, due to the aforementioned things such as bad acting, bad scriptwriting, bad cameraangling etc.
If you look at "The Amerigo" cutscene, you'll see just how much StarCraft stole from Aliens, but the way it comes through is still in a very cool and entertaining way.

Now don't tell me the set itself for the cutscene isn't 100% the same... yet still it feels cool and entertaining enough in itself. Had the characters then started mimic'ing dialogue from Star Wars or some other popluar sci-fi thing, it might have started becoming a fishy experience rather than the cool one it is.
That's where Firefly fails. It's just too full of references it's choking any original material it has...
