Again they stated that the only reason they have it set to require email right now its to test REAL ID. For launch it will go back to basic friend invite through handle and REAL ID through email.

Ok, i'm a new guy here but bear with me, i'll try to be fair and objective. The way production values go up for any game nowadays (guess why? because we demand all those bells and whistles), there's not only added cost but a lot of overhead for potential screw ups as well. In the end something's got to give.
Spychi, you are right about one thing: a lot of companies (the majority of the big ones, indie developers are another story) will try to shift that cost to the end user and place further restrictions on him, so that we end up paying money for stuff that was considered standard a few years ago. That i can object to even if i understand the need to finance next-gen games adequately.
What i would consider an honest compromise would be for them to be honest and charge us extra for what's really costing money instead of skipping basic functionality. I'd rather have a complete out of the box game without stupid and restrictive DRM measures and posessing some proper features and funtionality, at the cost of having to buy the high-res textures and hollywood-actor voice overs as DLC for a reasonable fee, rather than have all the eye candy at the expense of gameplay.
As far as the rest is concerned, it's a beta, it's free and it's meant to test stuff. Of course they are going to shift things around, because the purpose is to test stuff. Inconveniencing the user is not a concern when said user knowingly volunteers to test a potentianlly broken piece of software because he wants to squeeze in some advance gameplay time for free.
I mean, today i was browsing the bnet forums to see if i was the only one with lag and disconnect issues and someone was ranting about the database resets because he lost his achievements and portraits
As for MMO's now, they are a constant stream of revenue as well as a constant stream of expenses. There is no comparison between a MMO and a stand-alone game, because the MMO gets frequent updates all the time. The reason i'm not keen on WoW is because it's too "cute fluffy bunnies" for me and i do think it's charging too much for what it offers.
I was an EvE online player for a few years however and it used to have what is possibly the best PvP risk vs reward system in the known universe, plus you didn't even have to buy the expansions. If a small icelandic company could operate a privately owned server cluster where all players inhabit the same game world (no sharding, separate servers or instancing, you could enter the equivalent of a WoW raid, find other people in there, kill them and loot their burning spaceships, EvE was all about the PvP), churn out expansions, patches, balancing tweaks and hotfixes and do that for a measly 14.95 Euros/month per account for about 100000 subscribers, i'm sure a giant like Blizzard would be able to do something similar for a few million subscribers.
Nevertheless, i'm not going to go to the WoW forums and tell them their game blows because it has non-existent consequences in PvP and they are suckers for buying the expansions separately when a) it doesn't affect me and b) i haven't paid a dime for it ever. I have voted with my wallet, i stay away from WoW and that's all.
So, to recap, i am concerned about the direction of gaming in general (not just Blizzard or SC2), there are things i like and dislike and i have the right to bitch and moan ad nauseum...as long as i have plonked down some cash into a game. If i haven't done so, it's none of my business and i can move on to something else. And trust me, we gamers won't need to collectively shout and rant as much if we simply refuse to buy what we consider games with bad design![]()

For me, right now, SC2 is like a one night stand. Its fun for awhile, but pretty soon you're regretting it and hoping it goes away.

The thing is, because RTS is such a small genre, Blizzard is basically running a monopoly now.
they KNOW theres no other companies that even compete at all in RTS with them, so they can slack off and put out a sub-par product now and people will be forced to either play this, or quit the RTS genre completely.
They dont care about making the best product possible anymore, they did that with SC and War3, now they cashed in the money cow that is WOW and they are starting to get the idea "Its not about the quality of the game, its about marketing to the casual crowds".. So they are making basically WOW in a RTS game, not a competitive esports game. Therefor, SC2 is a pretty horrible game, At first the balance was good and it was just horrible Bnet 2.0 features, but now they are ruining the balance too, making the game friendly to casual players (who often play terran, therefor so much terran buffs and nerfs to other races)
And they know people will be forced to buy SC2 because thats the only RTS in the past 5 years that is actually "decent".. They dont care about making it the best game it can be though, cause they have 99% of the target market in their hands.
I personally am going to FPS games for my competitive fix now; SC2 is a major fail and i've already spent 10 years on BW/war3 so im bored of them. RTS as a genre is officially dead, outside of BW/war3 strands which will die very soon as the games are so old/metagame completely evolved.

I am pretty certain that blizzard stated in their ratings that Terran was losing more than winning in the high level play. So not sure where your getting this whole catering the balance changes towards casual players. They dont care about making the best product possible anymore, they did that with SC and War3, now they cashed in the money cow that is WOW and they are starting to get the idea "Its not about the quality of the game, its about marketing to the casual crowds".. well if people are enough blind to buy the MW2 map pack for 25$, then what stops Acti to add skins for the multiplayer for the same ammount of money? and while some publishers like EA (which completly disapproves Activision way of selling CoD franchise in general and other games, while EA is their competition at the market they have proven that they can change their product selling policy in the past two years) other publishers will follow Acti's way of sales, which isn't good for us, a hyped game like MW2 can have influence not only on the developer's products but other's as well
so either we want games for 50$ max each or we want to be raped in the ass for a shitty game
oh and btw I will be buying SC2 for singleplayer mainly, yet restrictions like region lock pists me off
Dawn of War 2 sales are pretty big
add to that content like : map editor, patches, Last Stand (which is very awesome time after time), graphics, new addon like Chaos Rising (which is great), it is using Steam and GfWL
the multiplayer balance is broke in few ways, I will admit but not everything can be superb

Mass Effect Universe Fan, I support Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for Game of the year award! ME2 still is being the best rated game this year! Keep it up

Spychi have you ever heard of a thing called inflation? Prices go up over time. Unless the product becomes obsolete then obviously the prices drop. Unless your talking about trying to buy unused technology like for say an 8mm player for somebody like me who has free movies sent by movie companies in 8mm format to watch. Look up how much it costs to buy an obsolete 8mm player from sony.

Welcome Blackdog.I've seen worse first posts than that!
You know, I've never in my life met an "RTS gamer." For one thing, strictly speaking Blizzard most definitely does not have a monopoly over RTS; good, albeit unexceptional, RTS games are made all the time. For another -- let's say Blizz really did have a monopoly over RTS...they KNOW theres no other companies that even compete at all in RTS with them, so they can slack off and put out a sub-par product now and people will be forced to either play this, or quit the RTS genre completely.
Who cares?
RTS isn't that hot a commodity, and doesn't have that many genre-blind fans, that it can survive on that alone. Blizz isn't banking on their RTS fans to carry them through, they're banking on a secured casual market, fueled by WoW fans and an influx of new generation gamers.
If they put out a product that is objectively observed to be sub-par, Western critics may or may not decide to not let Blizz get away with it. And the casual market just might listen. That has always been the concern. That's why Blizz renamed "Single Building Selection" to "Spawn Larva."
