    Default New League System...

I know the patch has only been live for a few hours, but I have a few gripes about the new league system. I assumed that by getting rid of Copper and by adding Diamond they would make Diamond something cool, something to strive for.
I was bronze before the patch, I got placed in Plat this time around and I started messing around with my standard 2-gate robo build. During one of my matches, I fought a "Diamond" player. He went mass speedlings, which I countered with some Forcefield usage and I beat him quite handily. He then proceeded to call me a scrub and said that I know nothing about Protoss. Upon reflection, some of this is true. I have only been in the beta for two weeks. I never played BW. My APM is around 40. But I get placed in Platinum and I am able to defeat Diamond players? My thoughts were that Diamond would be the "Whoa! You're Pro! 200+ APM!" league. If it's not that, why get rid of Copper and make something above Plat?
As I said before, the patch just went live and people are still getting straightened out. But I believe that people should not get placed in Diamond from owning a few people in placement matches. Start them in gold MAX and then have them work their way up and have to get promoted to Diamond, it would be an honor. Right now it's just the new Plat, with any random noob who went 5-0 on his placement matches claiming to be in the highest league.
    Thoughts?

Not many people are playing the new patch right now. The system should put everyone where they need to be in the next few days.

I am guessing that after release, there will be more than 5 placement matches to more accurately place people. There is no way that 5 games can accurately place people in 1 of 5 leagues.

When beta first started, it was 10 games. I assume they dropped it to 5 to make the resets easier.

the current ladder system is the same as the old, just some new name changes is all. Blizzard simply said people were confused whether copper or bronze was higher, diamond will be the same as last patch's platinum. And I am sure that, come release, there will be more noticable skill level differences between the leagues.

I do like how they named the leagues. They better you are, the more you are worth/the better the medal.

I propose, placement matches should only be accessible after 15 games against everyone in some void or something. His scores will be kept and put into the test in those placement matches.

15 games is a lot before games actually start counting.

IMO, the best system is simply a straight ELO system. Forget this league nonsense. Just let people play and give them an ELO rating as they play. Eventually, the top players will play each other while the lesser skilled players will play each other. It's tried and proven to work time and time again.

    People are dumb.

Although, I do enjoy the new look of B.net.

I'd say 15 or 20 for a normal release would be on the high end. I'd be willing to bet 10 would probably be magic number.

to OP: That person who was diamond may have faced off against 5 players who weren't very good and got placed in diamond. As to where a diamond bound player faced 5 diamond capable people and lost 2 placement matches.

Once people start playing after the lag and login issues are corrected they will get replaced after playing so many games to their skill respective leagues.

I like having leagues and divisions. Even though my division rank is pretty much meaningless compared to anyone outside my division, it still gives me a short term goal.

As many others have said... I would rather be #36 in my silver division instead of #363,480 in all of American B.Net. Even if it really doesn't mean much, succeeding in my own division is fun.

If I understand the system correctly, there should be a straight ELO number for all of us hidden behind our league and division score? Maybe they could make everyone happy and give us access to both numbers?
