Personally, I don't feel that SC2 is any less impressive than during any of the races' reveals. I remember feeling that I had no idea what to expect, but I did think we were going to get a 'different' sequel, like how WarCraft 3 is almost completely different from its predecessors in terms of gameplay.

I was a bit surprised to see that StarCraft 2 was going to be a 'direct sequel' to the original, but once I understood that, the stuff I saw made a lot of sense, and what we have now isn't really all that different.
I agree, I don't see what is so special about this reveal compared to what we have.

BESIDES THE FAR SUPERIOR voice acting

I have to agree with Hamshank, the Zealot actually sounds like it has a relation to the cick-assnes of it's SC1 predececcor! I wonder where all these sound files went...

because thats exactly what i said right? You aré so shortsighted, but we all now that, so no surprise there.
I was saying that the way they aré balancing the game is by nerfing everything, not by creating something new. Thats why we lost a lot of awesome features the game had initially. Instead of balancing them, they were completely removed. As simple as that.
    Waiting...

    The damned will return...

Blizzard's games, particularly their RTS games, tend to change *dramatically* from start to finish.

The original Warcraft 3 was unbelievably different from the final result. The original idea was filled with tons of amazing, original ideas, but the issue was that most of them were great ideas on paper, but just didn't work so well when transferred to a game.

-Drop Pods were the most awesome thing Ive ever saw. I really loved that. But proved to be too much for the little minds inside Blizzard. Their brains toasted after they created the warp in mechanic. After that it was all way down.
-Queen mechanic was innovative, and awesome. Not its just a unit that cant move more than 5 meters away from your hatchery. Its practically a fuckin building. You dont need the queen to be a unit. Turn it into a building. Turn it into a tumor that self replicates. Thats more awesome.

They just couldn handle it. The amount of innovation was awesome. But that E-sport shit is what turned this game into a nerfing feast. Everything that gets out of the box, is nerfed, mutilated, or destroyed, for the sake of E-sporting crap.

And I will fuckin buy this game and play it until my eyes bleed. HELL YEAH BABY!!!
    I agree 100%.

Terran&Protoss death animations were so much better then - whole bunch of mech parts falling to the ground in awesome physic system.. Now they just explode and that's it. Colossus's beams left amazing heat trail on scorched ground. Terran dropships somehow went down to the ground in cloud of steam to drop some marines. Thors were mean motherfuckers back then (not goliaths), mothership wasn't dull and boring (now it's arbiter)... Hell, even crappy zealot voice was better!

This "balance dogma" and "not to flood the screen" cut down a lot of awesome stuff... Looks like they try to repair the the "damage" whenever they go creative and innovative.

E-sport's demands are killing every bit of so called realism in SC, making the game bland and "average ok" (at least from creative and artistic aspect) ... and of course - lift our suspension of disbelief higher and higher.

Fuck. Game is still great. 9/10. But...

Complete gimmick. How is it being built in a factory actually any different than having an SCV build a thor? Its not like you would ever actually build a thor in the heat of a battle. Absolute best case scenario is like... proxy thor.

What would the point of the drop pod be when you already have a nuke and dropships? A nuke gives the same advantage of cloaked destruction while the medivac can carry your marines and drop them where you want. There was way too much overlap here and I dont see why you think its so awesome.

Spoken like somebody that hasnt seen the more recent uses of the queen. I have now seen 2 very recent games in which the queen saved the zergs life. TLO mightve been in both of the games... I am not sure, but he made like 10 queens and transfusion micro'd and fought off air units while he had no AA outside of queens, so he kept pumping the queen from 2 hatcheries. Very exciting games and excellent demonstration of what they are capable of when they need to be used.

Yea, god forbid the game is actually playable and balanced. Could you imagine if we were still in patch 1 of beta? Protoss proxy warp gate rushing everybody, terrans doing all in rushes and zerg.... I dunno what zerg was doing back in the day outside of roach roach roach.

I only watched the Terran reveal but while there are a lot of cool things missing, after playing the current version you can really appreciate that most of those abilities do not make for solid, balanced gameplay.

Dustin once said that their design philosophy was to make a bunch of cool units with cool abilities and balance after, and from seeing what there was to now, I honestly believe they've done a heck of a job. Still work to be done, though ^^

This is true. From a story point of view it should be built outside, or in a much larger hanger, but from a gameplay perspective it should be built inside a building.

All imbalance issues aside, they are damn cool :P But I still think they could make it into the game. Perhaps cost 400-200 for a drop pad with 8 or so marines. Would encourage ghost usage in non-protoss matches. Of all the things they have removed, this seems very workable and may even make it into an expansion?

While all these abilities are fun and all, a balanced game is a fun game. E-sports games have to be balanced. No game is fun when there is always one race or one trick that will win you a majority of the games.

Ah yes I forgot to mention this. If it's just pure fun you're after, with all the crazy things you can do with the map editor there will inevitably be more maps to keep you entertained with all different types of gameplay beyond the melee mode Blizzard has made for us.
