Can I get on the beta without a CD key?

Hey guys, go easy on me, I really don't get how this all works. I was going to pre-order starcraft ii so that I could get a beta key and use it. However, I am not able to download the beta software because I do not have a previous blizzard game.

If I pre-order starcraft 2 will i be able to download the beta client from battlenet? Also, I am using a mac, so I can't find the client to download somewhere else.

If you get a beta key by pre-ordering you should be fine. As for the Mac issue, I think they've released the Mac client already?

Use the search function. You download the client from battle.net. You download the client with a key. You get the key from preordering. Simple enough.

Why is this not locked yet?

You don't need to have an existing Blizzard game, but you need a battle.net account. They're free to make.

I knew people in the know were going to blast me. That's why I started with "go easy on me". I know there is a mac client and I have already created a battlenet account. I just wanted to make sure I would be able to get access to the client from blizzard, not an external source, after getting the beta key though the pre-order method.
