    1. When the power is out.
      • There is an offline mode which allows you to play skirmish, challenge or Single Player.
    2. When the internet is out.
      • There is an offline mode which allows you to play skirmish, challenge or Single Player.
    3. On the bus/train to work/school.
      • There is an offline mode which allows you to play skirmish, challenge or Single Player.
    4. In a cafe/airport/hotel where I am too cheap to pay for the internet access.
      • Then you are too cheap to pay for the internet access, see previous comments
    5. On a plane.
      • My 2 most recent plane rides had internet access. This is a trend that will catch on to be competitive. I'd say in a year or two this wouldn't exist. But since it exists now, you should see the previous comments
    6. On a ferry between islands. (eg. Vancouver and Victoria, or PEI and Nova Scotia.)
      • There is an offline mode which allows you to play skirmish, challenge or Single Player.
    7. I'm not sure exactly how much it needs to be attached to the internet, but if it's anything but a start-up thing then people in rural areas, on military reployment, or with crappy routers can get suddenly disconnected.
      • That's an issue that exists for the person, not the developer or game. The same mentality exists for people who play MMOs.
    8. When I'm in line for Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void.
      • There is an offline mode which allows you to play skirmish, challenge or Single Player. You can probably connect to a wireless hotspot of someone in line and play with them actually. (Remember, Cellphones are cool now)
    9. In a park or on the quad at school because the day is so gorgeous I can't bear to be inside, but still want to play SC2.
      • There is an offline mode which allows you to play skirmish, challenge or Single Player.
    10. When I'm meeting a friend who goes to another school and don't have access to that school's Wi-Fi while he or she is still in class.
      • There is an offline mode which allows you to play skirmish, challenge or Single Player.
    11. When I'm at my grandmother's house in small town PEI for a couple of weeks during the summer.
      • There is an offline mode which allows you to play skirmish, challenge or Single Player. But you should probably spend with with your grandparents.

    I sense a theme here....

Dude, I was on the ferry coming from Vancouver island back to Vancouver and I was chilling at a desk playing starcraft

    IT HAPPENS
The arcades on the ferry are only fun for so long

Relax. There's nothing you can't do in StarCraft 2 that you could do in the original.

Why is this even a topic?

And what's with this "it's not a portable game" stuff? Any game you can put on a laptop is a portable game.
Also, some of you need to take things way less seriously. This was meant as a whimsical thread for jockular semi-griping.
When your topic is a gripe from lack of internet, and you mention travelling as a part of your reasons, then your argument assumes you want to play ONLINE while travelling.

Starcraft 2, in the context of being played multiplayer, is an RTS where such things as APM and a suitable environment is needed to play competitively. Why would you want to play against other people with an obvious disadvantage playing on a bus? SC2 is not designed for that type of gameplay. It's not meant to be a portable game.

If you're playing the singleplayer, then sure, you can pause that anytime. But your topic is about requiring internet, which the Singleplayer does not require.
