To block their gas you'd have to sacrifice 2 workers early on. Then both would be removed immediately by the first unit they produced, or even all their workers. The economic lead of you pulling off their workers for a few seconds would may be a few minerals more than you having pulled 2 of yours to gas block.

Not worth it at all. If you're going to block the gas, simply building on it is better because it'll last a helluvasight longer.

Does this only work with extractors? In PvP this could be useful.

Who says? 1 Gas in SC2 is very minimal. You would hardly get far if there was an annoying probe sitting at some area where you couldn't build, a scouting probe perhaps. So if your gas was late for whatever reason this could be annoying. And anyway, this is something that shouldn't even be in the game in the first place, so whether it's pointless or not isn't the main point of this topic.

I've noticed this too, not because my opponent intentionally did it to me, but because I've effectively blocked my own gas with my own units. Kind of annoying, presumably unintentional.
Really? Don't your units move out of the way automatically when you place a building over them?

Ive seen it in a replay, i believe a player tries to mine from the gas without a building, and he is getting an error message that he cannot, but because that probe is interacting with the gas you cannot build on it.

There is another issue where the prone builds a gas extractor building, the P has it at 450 shields and 450 HP, while the zerg and terran only have it at 400-500... it makes no sense that it has twice the life of the other counterparts, this is a pain in destroying it.

It happens for all races, not just Zerg. You can nudge a worker right up next to the geyser and block the building of anything, until either your unit is killed or something attacks it and nudges it far enough away to let the opponent build.

I have seen this used intentionally in games before to prevent a Protoss player from mining gas optimally, it's rather annoying to have to deal with.

It's on the bounding box, so it blocks construction there. Makes perfect sense.

The bug was in BW, where the Extractor occupied less space than the Geyser.

As said before: just attack the Probe.

Also: it adds early harassing, and micro opportunities. I approve.
