To develop technology in 30 ish years that could travel you 60 000 light years in a few months when originally it took 28 years, my respect for the UED is undying.

Yeah, well, it gives 2231, which goes against what was implied to be two centuries of colonization in the K. sector, though that was also seemingly contradicted by the CMC's period of founding. While '31 is the most absolute date we have, it requires you to believe the following:
-Project Purification began almost immediatly, even before bans on religeons were carried out.
-Within two years, the UPL developed warp engines capable of travel between star systems.
-The UPL was willing to send prisoners on a one year trip before they'd even finished (or seemingly even started) colonizing the Solar System. By extension, they'd founded the Centauri Colonies and Tau Ceti comet farms before this as well.
So yeah. I'm not against an absolute date that means a longer period of time than two centuries, but having their point of departure in 2231 is rediculous. 'Course the source is in question, but...meh. Like the Warcraft timeline, I'd say that StarCraft's has entered the realm of personal choice.

Yeah, that was my bad.30ish years? It was 2231 when they sent the Terrans to the Korpula sector. Centuries later in 2500 they send their UED fleet with at least 60,000c FTL travel. Did you mean 300ish years or something?

Thing about Warcraft is that there isn't really a single timeline-it started out using absolute dates of the King's Calendar in Orcs and Humans and this continued in Tides of Darkness, though the duration of the First War was shortened to four years. After this, it pretty much fell into relative dating, with the opening of the Dark Portal becoming Year 0.
I wouldn't say the Warcraft timeline has plot holes per se, though there are some (what I'd call) questionable placings-Dawn of the Dragon itself is implied to be an interquel between Tides of Darkness and Beyond the Dark Portal but Blizzard placed it after the latter in its own timeline. Another issue is when the Third War begins, whether it begins in Year 20 (this is at least where the narrative of the manual of Reign of Chaos ends) or Year 25 (this makes the ages of characters such as Thrall make more sense), and the time between Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne (some sources have something akin to a year, while the manual says a few months).
It would take forever to go through every timeline variation, but basically, I'd say the main divide is between Year 20 and Year 25, with the rest flowing on. If I applied the same to StarCraft, I'd say a dichotomy exists between 2500 and 2501 in regards to the Brood War, since most stem from BW's placing. The wiki (at which I'm an admin) reverted to BW in 2500 as per the HD timeline, but while I'm obliged to follow it, I don't personally believe it for an instant, for reasons ranging from Pocket's modus operandi in regards to referencing and dates that not only contradict other sources (including Wings of Liberty itself) but make little sense standing on their own.
So yeah. I'll be playing WoL in 2505 in my mind.![]()

I think the bigger issue is that the original 4 ships with ATLAS must have gone straight through the center of the galaxy and not stopped, considering they were aiming for Alpha Centuri they wouldn't have tried to navigate around the center, the UED fleet may have. Assuming the Zerg Swarm knew the general vicinity of the Protoss (enough to have been heading in the right direction from Zerus) then the super-carriers would have gone right parallel to the Swarm's path to Protoss space, assuming the Overmind didn't know past a general direction, or was making some detours for the creatures to infest, then they could have warped right through a region being infested by the Zerg.

If I'm not mistaken distance to stars (the methods differ depending on distances) is mainly measured by light intensity and mathematics measuring gravitational pulls based on change in movements and stuff.
So to answer how we can see our own spot in the universe, we can measure the distance to say a lump of stars and then place them in respect to distance between earth and thereby positioning them next to eachother. In the end all forms the galaxy's shape and we know the overall shape and our position in it.
But yeah, it is hard to imagine. I once saw this drawing of known space, and funny thing was that it was in a boxed shape. hehe ;P

Gantris IV is pointing in the right direction on that map though.
