I second that. I wish to see more such infestor play at the very top levels =)

I hear ya. It's funny, LoA and I look like we got bitch smacked in that game and I feel no shame in sharing it cause the opponent did so well, ya know?

Fungal Growth is often compared to Psi Storm, but I personally feel that Psi Storm is still superior.

One thing Fungal Growth has going for it is that anything hit by it is GUARANTEED to take 36 damage. It's not like Psi Storm, which can be dodged. However, that's 36 damage over 8 seconds vs Psi Storm's 80 damage over 4 seconds. In a situation where you have a good number of ranged units (say, Hydras) shooting each other, Psi Storm is superior because it kills enemies outright. Units can still attack when under the effect of Fungal Growth - they simply can't move.

That's part of the reason why it was so good against your Muta - they clump up naturally and only have 3 range, which means that they can't actually get close enough to Infestors to kill them if they just zap the Muta with Fungal Growth and then back off. Then that Zerg player just kept refreshing it until your Mutas exploded, which was really cool to see . It's one of those things you theorycraft about, but don't actually see in a game .

I like to use Mutalisks as light cavalry in a 2vs2. Just using them as fast-response units, even if they may not be the optimal unit choice. I think that if you guys played standard and went Hydra/Roach, you would have had much better results against those Infestors. It'd take a lot more to hurt a ground army (particularly since Roaches are quite tough), and you'd need more Fungal Growths to 'catch' the same number of Hydra/Roach as Mutalisks (since Mutalisks clump up more).

I don't want to sound mean saying this, but both you and LoA didn't play tooooo sharply as Zergs that game, and I think that that definitely had a hand in allowing the Infestors to be as effective as they were.

That's not to say that they're bad in a ZvZ - I definitely agree with you that they're good. I just wouldn't go so far as to say that it can't be countered except with more Infestors of your own and/or Brood Lords .

*nods* I can see your points, and agree that in that game we didn't play sharply, but after this game I've been emulating it into my own ZvZ and when you reach a certain critical mass and have an awareness of the enemy, playing standard becomes very painful. The trick is to do hit and run with the infestors and the applied pressure and attrition works very well.

It also requires you to be mobile with your infestors and not have them near your base, I've had good games to show off the infestors since this, but I'll humbly admit that the response and use of infestors that I implemented is not to the same angle of this game itself. That's why I linked it, even if it put LoA and I's skill in a poor light in this instance. (The pressure and map control applied by it was rather intense.)
