Thread: Intimidation

Retardedness aside, I'd say 24 Ultras (with splash) will level a base (and whatever is trying to defend it) quicker than 24 BCs. Besides power, Ultras still have the speed.

However, In regards to defending one's base from BC's, I'll admit I am also imagining a Starcraft world still populated with scourge...

Battlecruiser hands down. No other unit is as menacing to me. Ultralisks may be intimidating if there wasn't an air or long range option to deal with them.

Are we talking from the PoV as a player, or the PoV of the lonely marine on a scouting mission? As a player I'd fear a group of BCs most. As a marine, probably ultralisk or archon.

Thanks, I was just about to ask that. Are we talking about an in-game appearance of one of these units, or if we were standing outside and one of these things walked/flew toward us?

I voted Colossus based on a realistic encounter. An Ultralisk you could potentially hide from or dodge its attacks, and a huge ship/vehicle you could possible avoid detection. Not only could the Colossus use its thermal lances and glass the entire landscape, but it can walk up and down cliffs, so there's no escape.

He's talking about the psychological effect on you yourself when you're playing the game. For example, some people are so intimidated by certain units that they sometimes leave when the game even if there's a chance that they can still win i.e. a Carrier fleet appearing on your doorstep, etc.

    I picked the Colossus.
The reason being is, i tend to favor ground units more than air units.
    Seeing that would hurt me.

Battlecruisers, hands-down. They're so strong right now that I wouldn't be surprised if they get nerfed sometime during beta.

In the video of them in action, they easily took down carriers and a mothership (and pretty much everything else) that was in their way. Plus, they have mobility, and can attack you where ground forces cannot react.

Yeah, but comparing to the Ultras, BCs are doing 8*8 dmg, and on ultras every shot of those 8 get reduced by Armor, i would agree with Nicol, Ultras will destroy your base faster then BCs. On mobility thing, yeah they have, but also, even if they are flying units they are really really slow, in comparing them with Ultras which has Strength and Speed.

In the hands of a skilled player, the Carrier will be very difficult to defend against, if reached a whole control group (24 this time!). The Battlecruisers, while definitely threatening as hell, would need to get much closer, and so, will be easier to take down by the appropiate units.
The Void Rays laugh at the Ultralisks, Brood Lords, Colossus, and probably even Thors.

Doesn't make the void ray scary at all, because marines laugh at void rays.

Therefore, I'd much rather see an army of void rays than an army of Ultralisks or Battlecruiser.
