    Default ranking system

So i played my first 5 games ever of sc2 and i got 5-0. This is not due to skill, i just played noobs who are unfamiliar to sc. So i got thrown into the platinum league. Since then i have played 15 1v1 games in this ladder system. my rank is only 960 something. Shouldn't i be in the bronze league, not the platinum? or is bronze above platinum? i thought it went bronze--->silver---->gold---->platinum.

Yes those are the leagues, and yeah you shoudn't worry too much. If you're losing a lot you'll just rank down pretty quickly. Be patient and don't get frustrated
Also, if you get to play top-ranked players, take a look at the replay for basic builds.

Maybe it has to do with what difficulty you selected in the beginning (it asks if your a n00b, vet, or pro or something), and thats why you faced n00bs in the start.

You should get demoted eventually if you keep losing.

I have about a 3 win, 2 lose ratio going on right now, so i like where i am at. I am just curious as to where i stand in the overall rating system. Is platinum good or bad?

    Platinum is the best.

The leagues go as follows. Copper < Bronze < Silver < Gold < Platinum.

And there is no site to see your global ranking. Your point score is only comparable to people within your division.

I dont understand this ranking system aswell. I chose the noob option at start, went 5-0 and i have been placed in platinum. Since then i play against broze or silver players and in these matches i am "slightly favored". So my question is why am I in the platinum league, since i play vs players from the bottom leagues. I just feel I dont belong there.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English

Wrong, your division doesn't affect the amount of points you win/lose. That means that if you've got 1200 points, and your buddy in another division has 1300 points, he's ranked higher in the overall "server ranking".

Does that mean he'll be favored? Not necessarily!(read below )

That probably means the system will be moving you down soon. Your "Battle.net skill" is different from the rankings you can look at: rank/points/league etc...
That means that right now your "Bnet skill" is below that of a platinum player, which is why you can find yourself "evenly matched" against a gold or silver player. As you lose more, your hidden rank will go down, and you'll eventually be moved down one or more leagues.

Source: No official source. This is the result of many observations but has never been stated by a blizzard rep officially.

Oh and btw, for US servers, some guy made a bot on Bnet to retrieve division info.
Here is the overall North American server ranking:

    Edit: Should mention credits:
All credits go to Gibybo and I got this link from his thread on TL.
