    It's not acid - it's a spine . A needle spine to be precise .

Hydras in SC1 had an acid-spitting animation, but the lore stated that they shot needle spines, not acid.

    Here's stuff from the wiki :P :

Hydralisks may attack directly with scythe-like arms or, more commonly, strike from a distance with volleys of armor-piercing spines. Hundreds of spines are stored in the upper carapace plates and covered by flaps. The flaps fold back before the spines fire, a process which gives a few seconds warning to an impending volley.

The hydralisk has 4,000 muscles, compared to a terran's 629, and a portion of these may be used to launch the spines with enough force to penetrate 2 cm. of neosteel. The spines were evolved from the slothien's defensive urticating (stinging) hairs; they may be "grooved" for increased range and are slightly poisonous.

needle spine was also in SC1,but the animation was acid,In SC2 they finnaly realised this and changed it to 'needle' projectile,BTW acid saliva is the actual roach attack in SC2 which deals 16 damage...

This is beta.... A lot of units in WC3 beta had no proper attack animations until retail. They can't finalize every animation until they are sure it is making the final game. Why work hard on effects when you don't completely know if it will be used. Imagine putting alot of work on something that was going to be scrapped.

This comes true with the voice acting of the game....it obviously shows they didn't worked hard on it

That may be true of other units, but somehow I don't see much of a possibility of the hydralisk being "scrapped."

I appreciate that they want them to shoot spines, and I'd love for them to keep it that way, but the animation and sound is just uninteresting. The old animation and sound was substantially better. It was fun to watch and intimidating.

Thats because it IS an arrow. Its not suppose to be acid.

Thats why they changed it. Because, apparently, you thought it was acid. Your not suppose to think its acid. Its suppose to be a Spine with acid on it. aka an arrow.

This is proving their point. This thread is why the current animation is good :ie So it actually looks like an acid spine

Uh arrows? Give me a break. This isn't warcraft in space, we don't need projectiles to look like arrows. The fact that we can see spines means they travel slow and it's a wonder how it even penetrates the marine armor.

They need to fix this so that you can't see the spines, you just see a acidic like flash on their muzzle and a impact hit.
