Also when their shields flare it has a hexagon grid like the bubble shield on Halo 3.

It has something to do with the proper use of space. For example, the cells from a bee hive are hexagonal, because thats the best way to use the very limited space that they have.
A little bit of research should answer that.

Interesting. I never noticed that. I think they have Hexagons on unit warp ins too? Maybe thats just squares though.
