Making an entire switch to air didnt really cross my mind since i already noticed he pumped out corruptors, and his latest army was made of lings/hydra prior to that, but does 5 voidrays beat 8 corruptors? since thats kinda the ratio ill be walking into, or worse.

But i have a really strong feeling he would have gone more hydras if i went voidrays, so its an easy counter for him and i still cant touch those broodlords =/

I did make archons of the templars that didnt have energy, but they just got steamrolled over and i couldnt even reach a broodlord.

    Blink man Blink!!

Stalkers are very very strong if you use blink to focus on Broodlords. Everythign else is noise created by the zerg player to protect his broodlords. You should make hard counters to protect your stalkers. Get a lot of zealot/sentry to support vs lings and use VRs, as was mentioned, to take care of corruptors - don't forget flux vanes, and keep targetting those corruptors if they start kiting them. Micro those VRs to continuously fire at something, and not lose that 3x powerful beam. And keep blink-microing your stalkers to focus down the broodlords.

Initially the templar would obliterate lings and a few broodlings, but then be in the process of tech switching there where you are getting more and more of the counter for each unit type
Keep observers in his base to know what he is getting, and more importantly at what point he is tech-switching.

Voidrays is the hard raitonal coutner, but as prtosswarrior points out, when you're at tier3 fights get mroe complex than "unit x counters unit y" for example, if he mostly has broodlords and corrupters, VR's in big numbers will be called for. if hes supporting with more hydras than corrupters you will want more ground / caster support to hurt / push back the hydras..

Mutas also do fairly well vs VR's what with being light and mobile, and that can also mix things up.

you will need to pick your fights wisely at this stage of the game, because a decent lategame zerg is VERY adaptive in terms of unit composition.

So, earlier today I went up against a zerg. I went up against broodlords and Corrupters...I had some VRs, sentrys and Stalkers. A desperate last offensive...I tried to aim my VRs at the broodlords but the Corrupters were right behind them and he ignored the Stalkers, I was trying desperately to stay out of the Corrupters range while dealing damage but found it impossible. Every time I move my VRs they stop attacking. It doesn't drag like when the target is running away. I used FF but couldn't do much.

Yes, I'm a noob. Is there something I'm missing?

im ratehr sure VR's beat Crrupters cost for cost, so if he isnt supporting with hydras, try to buy time while getting enough VR's ... tehse are also faster than those zerg air units (at least with ugprade at fleet baecon).
. i'd rather keep my ground forces back or try to blink-flank to get in some extra hits on corruptpters to help VR's get air dominance.

if he's supporting with muta, hydra or perhaps infestors, it becomes more complicated

.. that said, i cant recall ever playing either side with corrupter/BL vs VR's

I hardly see any Zerg players use Corruption, this means their Corruptors have often lots of energy; if you already have High Templers you can use Feedback to (nearly) one-shot them.

Don't forget that the HT's feedback will severely maim his corruptors!

Why aren't Phoenix a good counter? I ask, though maybe my question is more of a developer question. This situation screams Phoenix but I guess in practice, they're not so good?

Phoenix are anti-light. Neither Corruptors or Brood Lords are light. Plus, Graviton can't hit air to disable it. And Phoenix can only be produced one at a time, wheres Zerg can pump Corruptors at once. Phoenix are not your friends in that situation. High Templar to feedback the Corruptors plus Storm the Lords supported by focus firing and Blinking your Stalkers is your best bet.
