Thread: The Mungling

  1. #1

    Default The Mungling

In sc1 the mutalisk was the most important unit in zvz and a lot of matches ended up in a muta vs muta micro. The most effective counter to the mutalisk other than an another mutalisk was the scourge. In sc2 the scourge are removed, making a gap that seems to justify a new scourge like unit.
Snipping enemy transports , and scaring their air unit's away was for me one of the best thing to do as a zerg, and one of the most exciting things to watch as a observer.

    Introducing the Mungling

A mungling would be a unit pretty identical to the scourge, but it is created like the baneling by mutating from the zergling. A baneling cost 50 minerals , and a mungling could cost 50 gas.
By renaming the Baneling Nest to Lingcaverns , the Lingcaverns could hold all the upgrades of the banelings and munglings. The Lingcaverns would unlock the baneling and mungling. A posible upgrade for the mungling could be an upgrade that gives it splash damage. A mungling could be a nice and exciting addition to the swarmory.

If you think about, the zergling can alredy mutate into a walking bomb, and with the speed upgrade they get wings, so it wouldn't be such a strech, that they can evolve into a flying bomb. The mungling could haver roughly the stats of the scourge.
As said the baneling cost 50 minerals , and a mungling could cost 50 gas.
If we compare the cost with the scourge from the sc1 the mungling would costs more, but can be created anywere on the batlefield from the zergling.
    2scourge- cost 25 minerals 75 gas
    2munglings -cost 50 minerals 100 gas

Interesting idea, but the name mungling makes me laugh. Conceptually I like it though.

This, among other things. They removed the scourge for a reason, if they wanted to bring back the scourge, I'm pretty sure they'd bring back the scourge without making these weird changes like "Zerglings can turn into scourges called munglings!"

mungling = munglin ( meaning fire that has ascendant from the ground to the sky)

Reminds me too much of an Asian Zergling.

The name is the least of the problems...

If Blizz want's to bring back the scourge they'll do so not by introducing a Zergling -> Scourge metamorphoses.

How can you be shure? Just look at the broodlord, i't essentially a redesign of the guardian. Half of the returning units in sc2 are ether redesigned or renamed.
You never know, there will still be 2 expansions. If Blizzard would find out in the balance testing that the zerg need a scourge like creature, they will put one in.
