It sounds like any other beam of energy.

How do we know the medic's 'beam of energy' isn't also just a representation of the lore?

The Wiki states that medics use on site surgical tools.

Nano bots can't be surgical tools?

Nanos are in lore. That is how Medics heal others in Starcraft 2 and in Broken Wide.

    I have a theory...

All Terran bio units wear some kind of power suit be it the Marine, Marauder, Ghost, or Reaper...right?

And to some degree or another, at least in the lore, the armor has healing abilities. Definitely, the Marine armor (and I assume Marauder armor as well). And for argument's sake, we'll say this is true for Ghosts and Reapers...

In the case of Marine armor, the lore states that the suit has systems in place to help stabilize wounded soldiers with I'm guessing nanobots and closes off damaged parts of the armor with self-sealing tourniquets.

I think the medivac's healing beam could be a representation of low-grade microwaves being beamed at a wounded soldier, thereby increasing the speed at which the suit shuts down damaged systems and increases power to the nanobots. This causes the nanobots to go into a kind of overdrive mode where instead of just stabilizing the soldier's wounds, they actually reverse the damage....

    Just an idea.

Its an alright idea, but there is no mystery or need for theories. We know what the beam is.
