Thread: Medivac Magic

    Default Medivac Magic

I'm curious as to what kind of lore blizzard'll pull out of it's ass to explain how it does what it does; i.e, 'paladin beam'/transporting Thors, etc.

Don't worry this isn't another whining thread, it's more like idle curiosity. In regards it's heal beam, it'll probably have something to do with nanotechnology. That seems to to be the ultimate all encompassing 'Applied Phlebotinum.'

But what about the Thor? IIRC, the novel 'Speed of Darkness' mentioned something about 'extraction fields' but didn't really elaborate. It only stated that evacuating troops/equipment using them would cause them to be held in stasis for a few moments. Perhaps these have something to do with the medivac being able transport a unit as large as a Thor.

    Any ideas?

The Thor turns itself into a giant box to be lifted up by the SCV.

    As for the Medivac.

Um... it has a long-range version of whatever the hell the medic had.

The thor transporting doesn't seem to strange to me. The thor turns into a box for easier transportation and is then attached to the underside of the dropship. It'd mean the carry-capacity in terms of weight is rather tremendous for the dropship but that's about it.

The healing beam is most likely going to be something like a nanite swarm being shot at the marines or something. I believe the creators even mentioned as much in one interview, at least, IIRC. Of course what someone says on the flyby in an interview doesn't necessarily end up in lore, so take it with a fistful of salt.

Isn't it obvious? The Medivac's healing light is clearly a form of advanced phototherapy specially geared towards wound healing.

Sort of reminds me of those 'dermal regeneraters' from the Star Trek universe.

BTW, I just saw some vids of Thor drops on youtube. I'm actually quite please with the way the animation is done. almost makes it seem somewhat plausible.

Ya I believe the medevac beams nano particles to the marines to supplement their armor. It kind of makes more sense than the medic's magic wand, since it's really more of an armor patch than a medical operation in the field.

I still find it quite unusual that a ship that can heal infantry units from that distance cannot heal the units it's carrying, I know game-play wise it wouldn't be balanced, but lore-wise it's kind of (quite?) ilogical xP. Like an ambulance that can only treat a patient while being outside it.

Who knows, lore wise they still may be able to treat patients inside. Gameplay isn't always representative of lore.

Because if it was, we would get crazy stuff like this.

Why? The thing with the magic healing light is on the outside.
