I finally sat down and listened to all the voices at the same time. Here's some of my quick thoughts:

    Marine - Brilliant
    Maurader - Brilliant
    Reaper - Great
    Ghost - Classic
Hellion - Good except "Yes, I do own the road." ... Awesome!
    Tank - Good
Thor - Okay except for the Conan quotes. That's great.
    Viking - Alright

Zealot - Great, as good as original
Sentry - Nothing much to it ... neither here nor there
    Stalker - Good enough
    Immortal - Funny
High Templar - Good but with some lame movie quotes
    Dark Templar - Okay
    Archon - Good
    Collosus - No comment

    Zergling - *eyepencil*
Everything else is .. not terrible .. but sooooooooo far from the greatness of the original.

So, my answer is: Strongly like for Terran, strongly like for Protoss (but do think the originals were a bit better), and dislike for Zerg.

I agree on those two specifically, although I'd extend it to the Banshee as well.

Here's the problem: WC3 comes out and it's got all these new races, and the races that are already there gain all these new cultural associations (Blademaster as samurai). The voices are inspired because they're coming from new places. More Dwarf units, units with guns, Tauren, different kind of Trolls -- that's just for the two returning races. Obviously the other two are completely new. That leaves SO much room for new material and new jokes.

Thing is, the SC2 units aren't really any different from SC1's, which means Blizz would have had to work harder to come up with original material that really stood out. I don't think they realized that their usual wasn't going to cut it, which is why we ended up with stuff that's just OK. The SCV is probably the only Terran voice that everybody loves, and that makes perfect sense. It stands out because it's unprecedented in SC1 voices (hick truck driver), BUT also fits in the SC world (backwater worlds are full of people like this)... and as far as I can tell everybody loves it. Nothing else feels inspired like this.

They need to keep trying, IMO. And definitely dial down on the Battlecruiser's ridiculousness. It's the Terran flagship for crap's sake, it should be at least a LITTLE scary. I can't even take the guy seriously.

Voices that could be significantly improved with better lines and better jokes: Reaper, Ghost, Hellion, Viking, Banshee, Battlecruiser.

Dark Templar sounds like a freakin WarCraft Troll. I'm sorry, I had to say it. The old one sounded subtle and it worked better.

And the Zealot... it lost some of its fire, and since its a unit I'm gonna hear alot, I'd prefer it sounds more like Fenix again.

Yeah, I'm only really concerned with the voices, the lines are something I don't see changing so much, since that would be messing with their creativity, rather than delivery of quality.

The Reaper, Ghost, and Hellion I could see getting lines changed, but I'm really just pissed at the Hellion in general. It's not as cocky as the vulture, or as manly as the firebat. It just sucks.

The Battlecruiser... well Metzen just sounds too excited. When he did the voice 12 years ago, he sounded very calm. A simple re-do is all he needs.

Except for some of the Banshee's jokes, she and the viking are fine. They can be left alone.

The fact that sounds from SC1 completely rape SC2 gives me the idea that they are still very much in the development of the sounds and don't really want to make a 400mb patch to get them into the beta. I'm hoping retail sounds would far superior.

Acceptable. The protoss sounds really weak and the zerg are just... I don't know they sound weird. Zergs are supposed to sound weird yeah but they are not sounding weird in a good way at the moment. It's as if every zerg sounds have a flatulence or gassy feeling to it and it's just gross (in a bad way again).

Also, the zerg announcer is just terrible...

The Terrans are pretty decent though.

The Zerg advisor is annoying. Very annoying. I miss the old Zerg advisor.

The zergling was cute in a strange way for a while but now it is just very strange. All I can imagine when hearing it fart is, "Fear my zerglings! They will kill you with their flatulence!"

Out of all the Zerg that I can remember - which admittedly is only the Overlord, zergling and hydralisk - the hydralisk sounds too... quiet? Weak? Not as great as the original. In fact neither is the zergling and the zergling and the hydralisk were my favourite Zerg units from StarCraft 1 sound-wise.

I haven't played much Terran so I can't comment there. I have played a bit of Protoss but I only remember the zealot. It sounds off somehow. I prefer the original zealot but this one isn't too bad. The Dark Templar reminds me of an old man for some reason. At least from what I can remember.

I like the Terrans, I can live with the Protoss, and I dislike the Zerg.

    They could ALL use improvement.

The Hydralisk attack is probably the worst in human history

I prefer the SC1 "spit" attack. At least it sounded powerful, and you could tell that they where attacking. I know they're supposed to be spines, but they sound like spines that cannot pierce a sheet of paper...

I agree with Norfindel. In addition, pretty much all of the Zerg need a revamp. Every single sound of the original Zerg is memorable to me and masterfully demonstrates each unit. Not so much in SC2
