    Default SC2 Beta Delayed/Laggy Response

Hey guys, here's a video of the delay I get when playing SC2:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOLjaz6CrB4

Just a little frustrated because it is impossible for me to do patrol-move micro :[. The sluggish responsiveness hurts all my battlefield micro, but I think it hurts the MOST when I have to micro against lots of Psi Storm .

I try to do the usual 'luring' of Psi Storms from my opponent's High Templar, but the delay makes it trickier than it should be to pull off.

That's not to say I don't win games - I just have to rely more on superior army composition or overwhelming force . But there are plenty of game-deciding skirmishes and battles which I feel I could have won if my units were more responsive . Like I said, I can't patrol-move micro, and I feel that that's an important skillset in SC which I don't have access to. I'm just glad I don't play Terran, where patrol-move with Marauders is such an important part of playing that race well.

This video is with 'reduce mouse lag' on - I don't notice any difference when it's off, though .

Does anyone else get this much delay, or is it just me? I'm in Australia, but on the US Servers, if that has anything to do with it.

This topic needs a retitle. For a second, I thought you brought news of 'Beta being delayed" meaning the game would go gold later.

That'd make no sense . A Beta delay would mean that the beta would be released later than the scheduled date (and it's already out). I don't think that you can use the word 'delay' in the context of how long the Beta is going to run for .

Still, if it's confusing, I guess the mods will change it to something they feel is clearer. :]

Beta delay could also mean the beta would last longer than previously thought.

But, really, why not say "Battle.net lag/latency/delay"? It's not a big deal though. I wouldn't bother the mods with it.

I got this exact same delay when I played on my laptop (which is what the opt-in specs were for). After I built a gaming system over my break, I tried it out there and it was like night and day.

So, are you playing on a laptop? And I also noticed that the mouse lag option does not feel to do anything whatsoever.

Have you also tried posting that Youtube video to the tech. forum for the beta?

Unless you have a relatively beefy CPU, "reduce mouse lag" is actually going to drop your FPS thus making the mouse lag worse.

Heya - thanks for the feedback :].

I'm not on a laptop - I'm on a proper PC :[. It's a little old, but I can play the game silky smooth on the 'Low' graphics setting. When I'm playing 'offline' (like just watching a replay, usually), I can run the game on Medium (I just prefer turning it down for online play ).

The only problem is that despite the game's smoothness, there's just this delay/latency :[.

Its not his computer, if it was his computer the unit would move choppy, this is just lag, a huge lag if i may add.

Have you tried optimizing your internet connection?

    Try TCPoptimizer http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe

or if you are running vista/7 go to this site http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
and scroll down to where it reads vista/windows 7 downloads and download SG Vista TCP/IP Patch

Additionally you could test your average latency on pingtest.net and test with the recommended server as well as other servers, that are further than you.

here are my results for recommended server:
and testing with Rotterdam server, which is pretty far :

As you can see my latency is bellow 100, even to Rotterdam which is very good.
Try optimizing your connection and test, if your latency is above 100, contact your ISP with your problem

I misread his post. I thought he said the lag/delay was better offline.

In that case, I'd say it's him being in Australia and playing on the US server.
