Not only is the AI predictable and you either win or lose based on how much of an advantage you give the comp (instead of skill); but it's also boring because there is no person behind the units. You have no motivation to play your best or care about the outcome.

For example, even pwning absolute n00bs is more fun than playing a comp that can challenge me.

Not having a universal ladder makes it pointless to rank up. Obtaining top 8 in either of the leagues/divisions doesn't really provide much of a skill determiner. I just think the league system was a good idea in theory, but it really disperses skill to the point where the most competitive environment is avoided.

Actually, the AI has multiple build orders, adapts to your army makeup/presence of air, and has a large economy advantage. It is quite challenging at times, and easy at others.

The motivation is to win. The same for any game. If a person was required to make winning fun, no game would have a Single Player.

Maybe for doushebags. I don't find pwning people below my skill level particularly fun. It just dulls your senses and skills and inflates your ego.
If you don't have a Beta key and would like to play SC2 against computers, PM me. Don't ask me anything in posts. The AI that is out for the computers is fun and challenging. Give it a try to ease the pain of watching others play and not being able to play yourself.

It this guy serious? He's complaining that playing skirmish maps against the AI on starcraft is boring?

WC3 AI vs SC1 AI was leaps and bounds. It could even micro. It could pull back and re-engage individual units and cast spells with great accuracy. And WC3 has shit pathing compared to SC2b.

Imagine SC2 AI microing with perfect macro. I bet the full game AI, in its hardest setting, will be pretty formidable.

Play Protoss? Look for the map Photon Cannon Tactics in the NA server!

Current AIs are already formidable. I'm amazed at them. They're probably some of the hardest and smartest AI I've ever played .. and they are custom user AIs after only a month

@Operatoring: Maybe in theory but in actual use it's not that smart. Also, I never said pwning n00bs was fun. I said it was more fun than AI. You're just trying to save face (and resort to insults) because we've all called you out on the ridiculousness of judging a game based on AI

I think the OP might be feeling underwhelmed for other reasons. It's hard to give you a wonderful amazing virgin type experience for a game we've been waiting 11 years for.

But still, I've been playing against one of my vent friend 1v1 in sc1 recently and I'm having fun training him and seeing what he comes up with. If I played sc1 computers instead I would be gagging myself with a spoon.

The OP should reserve judgment until the final game is released, and we all know he will be buying it anyways!

I agree. The team behind the current AI's out there is doing a good job. I'm sure Blizzard has their AI's lined up and ready for us, but it is interesting seeing what kind of BO those computers throw at you as of this moment.

you really need the actual beta online experience for it to be worth while.. Its the same why I never play any single player game for the story, I only play multiplayer games like SC2, Halo 3.. when SC2 releases, I probably wont play the single player until like 3-4 months into it, when im bored/already established my high rank on the ladder.. and i'll probably only play 1 stage a day, cause its just too boring.

I downloaded the illegal client the day beta came out, and got the AI hack as soon as that came out too.. Played about 2 games, then didnt touch SC2 for 3 weeks until I finally got a legit copy. so only say its "boring" after you get a real beta key, and test the game further there.

And if you still find that boring, playing vs other people, then competitive RTS games probably aren't for you.

No, I am complaining that that the units and mechanics are boring. Hurray for reading comprehension. Do the units and mechanics change when you play a person? No? Than STFU. I was hoping for a little more bang. I think the community really stifled the development of this game. Don't get me wrong, I am part of that community. I just wish we would have given Blizzard a little more license to experiment. Sure, you can say they could have just did it anyway, it's pretty hard to ignore your core audience. Time and time again, I saw people shoot down ideas that they had only heard about, and Blizzard responded. So many units were brought back because of there nostalgic factor, especially when the community QQed in outrage at the idea of SC without them. The problem with catering to the community is that you can't give us something we don't already have. We want more of the same and /cry at anything new.

No, you misunderstand. Read above. I was simply quoting my experience with the AI as proof that I have experience with the units and mechanics.
