    Dustin Browder:
The philosophy of Starcraft is a little bit of everything. We have no core philosophy of "You can't do this" and "You must do that". Our fans certainly might see it like that sometimes.

We noticed that the corruptor needed a way to stay in the game after I swept the sky. So if I fly around with my corruptors and kill everybody, what's use are these corruptors any more?
Oh come on, seriously? I think this is such silly logic and I see it all the time. The corruptor will be used if he's getting a lot of air units. The corruptor can then stay there to PREVENT him from getting more air units. Beyond that he can be used as a pretty sturdy scout.

Honestly, ATA units needing an ATG purpose will only be relevant if air control does not play a role in games at all. Which I think we're seeing that it does play quite a bit of a role.

Just a little later in the interview, Dustin goes:

"Compared to the super units in other games this super unit [the Mothership] is very easy to kill. It doesn't even have the survivability of a Warcraft 3 hero. So it still fits the rules of Starcraft. "

So yeah, I think some of the stuff which Dustin says is just him getting excited . There definitely are some rules governing SC2's design.

I'm amazed how well he adapted from Command & Conquer to StarCraft. My hat is off to him!

    DB came from C&C?

    That explains a lot.

So if the Mothership is not going to be anything like a "super unit" in the classical sense (i.e. far more powerful than your average unit), then why are they making us only have one? What logic keeps us from having multiple Motherships if they aren't going to act anything like hero units? We might as well twist it the other way and make the Mothership as powerful and expensive as a hero unit but allow the Protoss to have more than one. Or hell, let's just make it the super-arbiter unit it's just BEGGING to be.

In regards to the whole anti-air unit uselessness issue, I can understand giving an anti-air unit an anti-ground ability of some sort (although anti-grav still weirds me out), but what's this about causing the anti-air unit to have to change into an anti-ground unit for it to be useful? I can see it now: a player turns most of his Corruptors into Brood Lords, then the enemy attacks with air units, then the player wishes he'd kept those Corruptors.

The Mothership has too much HP for a unit that can cloak other units, recall them, and vortex the enemy army, that's why it's limited to one. Still, it's horribly slow, i think i prefer the Arbiter.

About AtA units with a ground role, it can be compared with acuatic units in the games that have them, which are useless if there is nothing happening on the water.

I think that part of the problem is that air units are always considered high tech, so by the point you can build them, there are so many GtA units, that they can counter them fairly easy. People get so used to ground units, that air units can only happend in mass on games that last a lot of time.

If you could build AtG units earlier, you could harass with them, and what better to stop AtG units than AtA units? Of course, AtG units generally cost (or should cost) much more than a ground unit, so even if you could build them earlier, it's an investment, and you cannot mass them at that stage of the game. A problem with this, is that they would probably diminish the interest on cliff-climbers. Obviously, an AtG unit at this stage cannot be a beast like the Brood Lord.

    GameStar:
One recent change concerned the Zerg infestor. At the beginning of beta it could drain enemy units to replenish its energy. Now it spawns infested Terrans. What's your guess as to which mechanic will stay in the game?

    Dustin Browder:
Maybe it will be the one we have right now, maybe it will be something else. What we have in the beta is the best we have seen yet, but we might learn something new. If we don't like the infestor, we will change it.
So spawning infested terrans is the best they have seen yet... really?
