Would you rather not have that tileset for multiplayer maps? It's as simple as that.
In that case , i want an smurfs land tileset, with smurfs berries and evertyhing , hey it doesn't have to have any lore behind, or even make sense as you said

Better chances of seeing a Panda tile-set, if you ask me.
    - You've seen StarCraft: First Contact -

    - Now, prepare for the Final Metamorphosis -

Basicly what i wanted to say was, multiplay maps can be ether lore objected or not.
But it should be the same for all maps, not that only one map stands out from the rest.
So if they decide they want to ignore lore for multiplayer ( which i actualy wouldn't mind) , they should ignore it all the way , the potential for new maps would be unlimited. You could have hudreds of diferent tileset (only yout imagination would be the limit) instead of the current 16 or something.

So the question is would people want to play on maps tha would have no revelation to sc2 at all (heelo kitty island tileset ) ?

I prefer MP maps that make sense with the lore

The map is just as crazy as some of the Space Platforms from the first one. Its alright in my opinion.

Well, it now seems apparent that the platforms were built over asteroids (or other celestial bodies); in which case, it's reasonable to assume they would leave raw mineral sites accessible for subsequent mining operations.

Nope, In some instances, they hang out just like a sore thumb, acting as Mega Cities and one instance has a Space Platform built over the entire Hemisphere of a planet. There are also giant ones that orbit planets as well that are not close for mining operations.

I really would not have the tileset for MP lol. 9 is enough without the lorelol.

They already have done things like this with previous maps in SC1. Why is everyone only noticing it now?
