Thread: The Protoss Players Thread

    On the subject of phoenixes, outside of a pack of four for expo harrass or oveerlord hunting, the unit has been all but useless. they need something like the overload they had at some pre-beta stage. For the cost and effectiveness, they're all but wasted money. Compared to corruptors who can freeze a building and vikings who can transform, the phoenix just feels awkward as part of any build.

    On another topic, does anyone have any thoughts on going GW -> forge against possible reapers instead of a fast stalker? if they don't go reaper, you also have potential banshee help, and if they do, you minimize the safe zone they have to harass in, letting you more easily position zealots. I'm only gold though so I'm not sure how well this would work overall as I'm still working on my timing.

    Sorry for off-topic, but wouldn't it be all but useful? Cuz if they're anything but usless, that means they're useful. Right?

    Anywho... Personally, I don't like builds, maybe that's why I suck. :\ It just feels like it takes the fun out of it. I mean ya, I do get a pylon on my 9th probe, that's just force of habit, but anything beyond that, I pretty much wing it. I usually get a gate and a forge after the pylon (to block my entrance), then put a cannon for an early defence. It's all pretty much up for debate after that. Do you guys think I should keep doing what I do or get an actual probe-based build?

    (oh, one other thing... are the numbers supplies or amount of probes gathering?)

    That's NOT true ! Phoenixes have almost double attack speed and more hp...Vikings have 0 armor so they take full 10 damage...

    Hiya, umm, I've started out playing now beta, few matches at time because I'm literally shaking when I play against RL opponents(aka panic). Anyway, what I need, is somesort of guidance ^^' or just friends

    I dont have any friends atm in battle.net because I dont really know anyone from here, but hey, asking never hurts, right? I'm bronze league player, and fail a lot, trying to learn...

    Asking in here naturally 'cause I'm protoss player and need protoss help ^^'.

    Best I can do atm is pretty much Zealot rush when I notice that Terran opponent isn't doing a block on his base. Soo... yeah...

    I wantz friends ;_;

    I'm on eu servers though :< Sorry for typos and forgetting to mention server, I just played a match before this post and was shaking a lot <_<;

    I'd help if we were on the same server.

    Best advice I can give:
    Warp-gates, Sentries, and Immortals are your friend.
    Don't bother Chronoboosting your Warpgates (early Gateways are OK).
    ALWAYS block your choke with just enough room for one unit to squeeze though.

    Umm... why not DemoSquid? It gives you the ability to make more troops faster. Not everyone is perfect in macroing and having more troops in the same 30sec interval of cooldown makes using the CB on warpgates worth it.
    It is situational though... sometimes, you'd rather CB an upgrade or other nexii instead of your warpgates, but sometimes, you NEED to CB ur WGs or you wont have enough troops to defend your base or expo.

    Everything else you're spot on! ^_^ Sentries and Force-Field are your best ally in most cases in early game.
    Later on, the Guardian shield makes a huge difference vs mutas, roaches, hydras, marines, marauders, banshees, stalkers and other sentries. It works against all other ranged attackers, but not as well as against "lighter" firepower. Colossi, tanks, Thors, BCs, Ultras, etc just ignore GS.

    Also, use observers like your lifeline for scouting. Earlier on, probes are pretty good, esp with the new waypoint system and no pausing before a queued command.

    Scouting and being aggressive as Protoss will win you many a game.

    Also, understanding your scouting info is key. For example, if your Protoss opponent is opening with triple-gate zeals, dont skimp on em. Get your gates and zeals and get only 1 gas - enough for 1-2 sentries (after late core). Use your FF to section their zealots in two on your ramp so that your smaller number can deal with it. Rinse and repeat!

    The cooldown on Warp-In is just so fast anyway. If you actually have enough cash to build more units before the cooldown is up you're better off getting more warp-gates instead.

    You're right about that, yes. There are situations such as when you have 3 bases and have 12 warp-gates and are just getting income really really fast. Or you just microed a huge battle where both sides lost 90% of their army.

    Either way, if you don't have anything better to use CB on, why not on warpgates? You see what I mean?
