Thread: The Terran players thread

Any one think nuke casting can be used in more of a frontal assault capacity, rather than just for mid game harassment and support?

What I mean is, could you base your offense around nukes?

This would only really work on maps with islands, I think. You have to hide what your doing from the enemy for as along as possible.

    Here's the setup...

You would have to go gas heavy at the start, alla reaper rush, but not quite as drastic and then go just a two rax, MM for early defense, orbital command/mule for funds, factory and starport. Build one drop ship with two or three scvs and send it to a nearby island expansion. Bang out four or five ghost academies, supplement with three or four turrets and a command center, upgraded to Fortress as time and funds permit.

Now while all this is going on, you will have to push once or twice with an MMM ball just to make things look good...to sell the rouse, so to speak.

The idea here is to make your enemy think your doing a standard build. You may also want to try and station a quick viking or two slightly away from the island to scare away any scouts.

I haven't had a chance to try this yet, but will tonight. I don't have hopes for it, especially against Terran, with scan ability.

    The three big concerns are...

    Selling the standard build
    Funds/Gas
Staying off the other player's radar

A different application is using nukes defensively. If you do not want the enemy to engage, drop a nuke. If you are waiting for reinforcements, drop a nuke. If the battle is going badly, drop a nuke. It is extremely effective, though perhaps a bit gas heavy, at deterring the enemy since it distracts them (they have to look for the nuke if they don't know of the space-bar trick) and nobody would be stupid enough to walk into a nuke.

Well, I tried this tactic this morning, sort of...I'll post a replay when I get home.

I ended up having to build the academies back at my main though.

Only problem with the strat is that I had to blow lots of money on defense and harassment.

I pumped out banshees to attack his expansions and that kept him off my back long enough to bring in the ghosts. Nukes aren't too good against buildings though. Unless you drop two or three and that's such a waste.

I wouldn't do this again, even though I managed to pull off a win.

For that particular action, click on an scv, click or hotkey a basic or advanced building category, click or hotkey the particular buildings you want to build (in this case supply depots), hold down the shift key and then left click every where you want to build that particular building. It essentially is creating waypoints for the unit to go to. I think you can also do this for attacks. You can tell a unit to go attack three or four different places...I think. Haven't tried that yet though.

    Oops...sorry for the double post...

Okay guys I'd love to get some input on a super quick TvZ loss.

Story goes like this: TvZ on Scrap Station. Wide ramps, 2 rax to wall, you know the one. He doesn't even bother with a scout. The moment his Pool is up he gets 6 Lings and rushes them into my base, which I basically can't do anything to stop because my wall is nowhere NEAR finished. Even on Scrap, which has fairly long rush distance, his Lings are in my base when the first Marine pops out.

And at that point it's already GG. 1 Marine vs 6 Lings... even if I'd somehow seen this coming and had my Marine safe amidst my SCVs they'd have been forced to keep off mining for a long, long time while he got free reign in my base... and that means significant early game econ advantage, and TvZ that means game. He's just gonna overrun you, plain and simple.

And by you I mean me.

I don't really see anything I could have done to stop this... but just in case someone does come up with a solution, I'm gonna keep the whining to a minimum... for now.

You almost survived it really, it's just that you did some small mistakes and in a situation like this, everything counts. You let 2 marines die needlessly and you didn't brought your marine back to your ramp when you finished the wall off. You would have survived with an advantage if you wouldn't have done those mistakes.

Alternatively, you could always do a wall off around your mineral line. I can show you an example if your want, I even survived a baneling bust this way. That's what I used to do on this map but of course there's a disadvantage to it; they will be able to scout you.

Man, Terrans are so whipped. If you're not 100% totally safe behind your stupid wall, then you're dead. Please.

Bring a few SCVs off the mineral line next time.

So all the Zerg has to do is rush with 6 Lings and basic micro, and I have to be on top of my game just to survive? That sound unreasonable to anyone else?

You would have survived with an advantage if you wouldn't have done those mistakes.
Now this I disagree with. He might have lost 3 more eggs to Zerglings (instead of Drones) as opposed to the usual, but I lost way more than 3 SCVs, AND I lost LOTS of mineral time. I don't see how I could have had an advantage had I survived.

Can I just take a second to vent here? I'm sick and tired of Zerg doing nothing out of the ordinary, and me having to bend over backwards just to SURVIVE. They figure out that Banelings exist and can actually be used to blow up walls? Great, now we have to wall in 3x as thick JUST IN CASE he decides to get any Banelings somewhere down the line. And now they're rushing without even scouting, and it's completely viable and guaranteed to put me at an econ disadvantage, if not end the game right then and there.

What's the Terran equivalent? I have to get like 3 tech labs and an upgrade to make Reapers viable, and a single Stalker/Roach/Marauder will completely nullify my harass.

The thing is, I don't even know if the wall around the main would help me. I already have trouble being outmacroed by Zerg players that take advantage of their map control. A wall around my CC sounds like I'm just begging to be contained even more than I usually am, and I can't afford a disadvantage like that.

Please watch the game in question before you contribute next time. Thanks.
