i suspect that test was made with significant attack upgrades. am i right arthas? ... the cannons certainly feel worthwhile to use ingame, so yeah...
Vs protoss as in other MU's im doing a whole lot of reaper harass lately, and i mean early; 9 rax 9 refinery 10 depot to get that first techlab and the first few reapers out asap (# of reapers depending on how well im doing and if / when he has a stalker out.
if that doesnt deal enough damage, im in a rough spot, regardless, from then on its all about infantry.. its pretty straightforward.
it feels important to know if hes sticking with all basic gateway units + immortals or if hes mixing in colossi - so you can meet that with enough vikings.
something i'd like to try is Thor for stunning cannons vs Colossus. but what makes more sense is clearly MMM + ghost & vikings.
my ranking got reset and im doing well with terran since, but vs P might be my weakest - when the harass doesnt work well.. its a macro-intensive MU, but im getting better at that quite fast.

I work an internship at a government agency this fall, and have a good time at it.

Smells like you're either lying or you just did it wrong. I did the test myself just now.By attacking 2 raxes with 2 thors one with special ability one with normal attack, and of course i started the 250mm cannon 1 first, then ordered the other thor to attack....how else?
2 Thors with 250 mm strike cannons kill a barracks faster than 2 Thors using their normal attack WITH 1 attack upgrade. And I let the 2 Thors using the normal attack... attack first.
Edit: I just did the test again, with level 2 upgraded Thors. Once again, 250 mm strike cannons win first.
Edit 2: I just did the test... again... with lvl 3 upgraded Thors. 3 Thors using strike cannons on a command center kill it faster than 3 lvl 3 weapons Thors do.
Conclusion: No, the Thor's regular attack does not do higher DPS than its strike cannons.
Clarification: I want to clarify however, that I used the Thor's regular attack only before the actual strike cannons fired, not taking into account the preparation time for using the strike cannons. If I attack with the Thors first and then ACTIVATE the ability on the Barracks or Command Center, they die nearly at the exact same time. Mind you this is with lvl 3 weapons though.
Another Edit: I did another test. I took 4 thors, and told 1 to attack a Thor normally, and another to use its strike cannons on the 4th Thor. I started them from equal distances apart so that both attacking Thors had to walk into range to attack/use the ability. The strike cannon Thor killed his target first, while the lvl 3 weapons Thor came in a close second. I think this settles the dispute.

does anyone else think they should lower the prep time for the stun ability? whenever i use it in a battle the thor goes down before it even starts firing.

Yes, and the prep time is pretty much the only thing keeping Thor drops from being auto-win and auto-map control. Hatcheries only have 1250 Hp; killing them in like 5 seconds with 2 Thors is hard enough to stop as is.does anyone else think they should lower the prep time for the stun ability? whenever i use it in a battle the thor goes down before it even starts firing.

A lot can happen in one second. Like 20 Speedlings descending upon them.Because one less second is really going to change that?
